Chapter 026: Why Would You Give It to Me?

Liang Chuan tilted his head slightly. “Peng Shan.”
“This disciple is here!”
The burly Peng Shan hurried over and clasped his fists before Liang Chuan.
Liang Chuan glanced at Xu Chengwei, who was so terrified that he had lost control of his bowels, and felt even more disgusted.
Men like this bullied the weak and feared the strong. They only realized their mistakes when it was already too late.
“Drag him out and execute him in front of all the disciples!”
Liang Chuan had intended to use this opportunity to make an example of him, lest the disciples who had been brought back as captives still fail to understand their place.
“Yes!”
Peng Shan clasped his fists, seized Xu Chengwei by the neck, and dragged him away like a dead dog.
All that remained was Xu Chengwei’s unwilling cries for mercy.
In the open ground, Xu Chengwei’s mouth was gagged tightly. With his hands and feet bound behind him, he could only stare in terror at the crowd of disciples before him.
Holding a longsword, Peng Shan said coldly, “Xu Chengwei has repeatedly insulted the sect master. He will now be executed before everyone.”
“That bastard relied on his little bit of ability and looked down on everyone. He brought this upon himself!”
“Exactly. He’s a captive, yet he still dared to insult us. I wanted to cut him down last time!”
“Our sect can refine Foundation Establishment Pills now. He deserves to die!”
The White Sword Sect disciples made no attempt to hide the disgust on their faces.
“One of our fellow disciples went to help in the alchemy room before, and Xu Chengwei made him vomit blood. It’s good that he’s finally going to die!”
“People from the Blood Moon Sect have always been like this. If you ask me, we should kill them all!”
“But if we make a mistake someday, won’t we suffer the same fate?”
Even the other captives were both shocked and delighted. Those who had previously acted arrogantly because of their own abilities all lowered their heads.
In his final moments, Xu Chengwei looked toward Liang Chuan with a pleading expression, but all he saw was that cold, impassive face.
At that moment, he understood that he was doomed.
He kept forcing his tongue against the filthy rag stuffed into his mouth and screamed with all his strength, “Liang Chuan! You’ll regret this! After I die, the Blood Moon Sect will certainly avenge me!”
His desperate appearance, like a cuckoo crying blood, brought a smile to Liang Chuan’s lips. Though he could not hear the words clearly, he understood the shape of Xu Chengwei’s mouth.
“Come on.”
Those two words alone nearly drove Xu Chengwei mad.
Just as he was about to say something else, Liang Chuan nodded faintly from afar.
He felt only a sudden chill. His vision began to plunge rapidly downward, and then he sank into eternal darkness.
“Well killed!”

The bloody scene did not leave the crowd trembling in fear. Instead, it drew a burst of cheers.
Liang Chuan took two steps forward and gazed deeply at the disciples before him. “Junior Sister, see? This is what everyone wants.”
“I understand, Senior Brother.”
Liu Ruyan knew that he was also using this moment to awaken her.
After Xu Chengwei’s corpse had been removed, Liang Chuan walked to the front of the crowd with his hands behind his back.
“From today onward, we no longer need to worry about resources. Anyone who reaches the late stage of Qi Refining will receive a Foundation Establishment Pill from the sect!”
The moment these words were spoken, everyone present froze.
They had noticed one crucial detail: everyone.
There were captives among them!
The disciples from the other three sects exchanged glances, staring at Liang Chuan with words caught in their throats.
At last, a disciple of the Black Tortoise Sect cautiously raised his hand. “Um, Sect Master, do we get pills too?”
That was the question most of the other disciples cared about as well. After being captured and brought here, they had already lost all hope. Escaping was simply too difficult.
Although they did not yet know what had happened to their sect masters, they understood that the situation was likely grim.
Just when they had felt that their futures were hopeless, Liang Chuan had unexpectedly announced this news.
For a moment, they found it almost unbelievable.
With a smile on his face, Liang Chuan swept his gaze across them. “Although you are not given the same priority, if you perform well, the sect will also award you Foundation Establishment Pills!”
“Wonderful! Long live the Sect Master!”
“I never imagined we might actually obtain Foundation Establishment Pills!”
“This is even better than my former sect!”
Back in their own sects, their chances of obtaining a Foundation Establishment Pill had been vanishingly small.
After all, the circumstances of the four sects were not very different. The Blood Moon Sect was only slightly better off.
Yet after being captured, they had unexpectedly been promised the possibility of Foundation Establishment. Even if it was merely an empty promise, at least someone had bothered to make one.
Their former sects had not even offered them that.
Liang Chuan had made this decision because the cost of producing Foundation Establishment Pills was now very low. Handing out some as an incentive was therefore no problem.
Although he had already planted venomous insects in them, that did not mean they were incapable of making trouble in secret.
Besides, the disciples from the other three sects were not particularly poor in ability. If they proved trustworthy, investing some resources in them would indeed be worthwhile.
A blow followed by a sweet reward was the only way to make these people submit willingly.
After dismissing everyone, Liu Ruyan was about to leave for the cultivation chamber when Liang Chuan called out to her.
“Senior Brother, is there anything else you need me to do?” Liu Ruyan jogged over to him.

Liang Chuan took a small jade bottle from his pocket and placed it in her hand. “These are pills for you to use during cultivation.”
They were Meridian-Protecting Pills that Xinxin had sent over. Since only Liang Chuan and Liu Ruyan possessed outstanding talent within the sect, he had deliberately saved one for her.
“What is this?”
Liu Ruyan opened the bottle in surprise and found a pill she had never seen before inside.
“Take it before you begin cultivating, and you’ll find out.”
With that, Liang Chuan turned and left without offering any further explanation.
It was only natural that Liu Ruyan had never seen a Meridian-Protecting Pill. Even in the modern world, such a thing would have been extraordinarily expensive.
Since Liang Chuan did not explain, Liu Ruyan did not press him. Her Senior Brother would never harm her; that was all that mattered.
After entering the cultivation chamber, Liu Ruyan placed the spirit stone to one side. As the spiritual energy within the chamber grew denser, she put the pill Liang Chuan had given her into her mouth.
The moment it dissolved, she felt a warm current spread rapidly through her meridians, faintly enveloping and protecting every one of them.
“This…”
Liu Ruyan’s eyes widened. She naturally understood what this meant.
With the pill protecting her meridians, she no longer needed to worry about spiritual power damaging them and could absorb the surrounding spiritual energy without restraint.
With this pill, her cultivation speed was dozens, even hundreds, of times faster than usual.
Liu Ruyan did not dare waste a moment. An opportunity like this was exceedingly rare.
She immediately sat cross-legged and began cultivating with her eyes closed. The dense spiritual energy even formed a vortex above her head before pouring rapidly into her body.
In the blink of an eye, several days passed.
“I’ve finally reached the bottleneck!”
Liu Ruyan took a deep breath. After adjusting her condition, she drew spiritual energy into herself and, relying on the remaining medicinal effects of the Meridian-Protecting Pill, pierced through that thin barrier.
“I’ve finally reached the middle stage of Foundation Establishment!”
Liu Ruyan was so excited that she could not help dancing for joy.
This speed was simply too fast!
“This is all thanks to Third Senior Brother! But…”
“Why would Third Senior Brother give me something so precious?”
“Could it be…”
As though she had thought of something, her cheeks flushed crimson without her realizing it.
