Chapter Twenty-Nine: The Studio Officially Opens

Yi Yunxue was already beginning to look forward to seeing how people in the industry would react once the song was released.
The melody completely broke with conventional songwriting. It did not follow the rules in the slightest.
It was like building with blocks—joining pieces from here and there until, in the end, they formed a skyscraper.
[Chen Jiang]: Well? Have you finished reading it?
[Yi Yunxue]: You’re incredible!
[Yi Yunxue]: You really came up with this song in just five minutes?
[Chen Jiang]: To be precise, it took less than five minutes.
[Yi Yunxue]: How is your brain even wired? I’d love to pry it open and see which window Heaven forgot to close for you! (Envious)
[Yi Yunxue]: It looks like our studio is about to gain another talented singer.
…
The next day.
In the afternoon.
“Welcome to Dreamrise Studio. To be honest, our studio was established only recently. As you can see, even the renovations haven’t been completed yet.”
“Although we haven’t been around for long, our staff is by no means lacking. You met them yesterday—the author of ‘Encounter’ is our music director, and Yi Yunxue, who is known as the Little Diva, is our boss.”
“Since the studio has only just been established, the company will be devoting most of its attention to you, our first group of artists. I hope you’ll work hard and make us proud.”
Inside the studio office, Sister Li was speaking to Ma Ya.
“I understand, Sister Li. I’ll definitely work hard,” Ma Ya said earnestly.
“All right. Since you’ve already signed the contract…” Sister Li took a folder from her desk drawer and pulled out a sheet of music. “This is the song Chen Jiang promised you. Take a look.”
“He’s finished it already?” Ma Ya froze.
She instinctively accepted the sheet music and looked at its contents.
The title was “Wild Child.”
The name was a little strange…
But as she continued reading, she became completely absorbed, and her eyes gradually brightened.
While studying the score, she could not help humming the melody.
This song suited her perfectly!
She loved it!
“Sister Li, did Director Chen really write this song just yesterday?” she asked in disbelief.
“That’s right. According to what your Sister Yunxue told me, he spent barely twenty minutes writing it.” Sister Li nodded.
“I received this score yesterday as well. When I heard that he had composed it in less than twenty minutes, I was completely stunned.”
“Chen Jiang is a true genius. His inspiration seems endless.”
She recalled how Chen Jiang had produced four songs at once and sighed in admiration.

“You have to work hard. Chen Jiang thinks very highly of you. If you do well later on, he may even write more songs for you.”
Hearing this, Ma Ya clenched her fists and secretly swore to herself, “I must not let Director Chen down!”
…
The twelfth day of the first lunar month.
Today was the opening day of Dreamrise Studio.
They had been busy with renovations and recruitment for some time, and only today could Dreamrise Studio finally be considered officially open.
Two large flower baskets had been placed in front of the studio entrance.
Yi Yunxue, the company’s owner, was personally receiving guests at the door.
Quite a few artists she knew from the industry had come. Most of them left after setting down their flower baskets.
One or two established singers, however, shamelessly tried to ingratiate themselves with her. Their words were full of probing questions, clearly hoping to discover who Chen Jiang—the man who had written “Encounter”—really was.
“Brother, you don’t need to keep asking. I’m Chen Jiang.”
Just as Yi Yunxue was growing annoyed by the questioning, Chen Jiang stepped outside.
“You’re Chen Jiang? How do you do? I’m Wang Rui, an artist with Skystar Entertainment.” The somewhat effeminate young man introduced himself ingratiatingly.
Chen Jiang looked him up and down. He had heard of this artist before. Wang Rui was a frontline singer with Skystar Entertainment, the kind of traffic star who had forced his way into the top ranks through sheer access to resources.
“Hello. You’re Yunxue’s former colleague?”
“That’s right.”
“You came to attend our studio’s opening ceremony. Won’t the higher-ups at your company object? Aren’t you worried they’ll misunderstand?” Chen Jiang asked, puzzled.
“The previous unpleasantness between the company and Miss Yi was all caused by our former general manager, Lin Anyuan. He’s no longer with the company.”
“Our new general manager, Mr. Zhou, specifically instructed us to maintain a good relationship with Miss Yi,” Wang Rui explained.
Yi Yunxue was visibly stunned.
Of course, she knew exactly which former general manager he was talking about. Most of the conflict between her and the company had indeed been caused by Lin.
In her impression, he was an arrogant and vindictive petty man.
It was his rule that only kings and queens of pop were allowed to sign S-tier contracts, and that rule had caused many frontline singers to fall out with the company.
“You mean Lin is no longer with Skystar Entertainment?” Yi Yunxue asked.
“Yes. Haven’t you been following the news these past few days, Miss Yi? Then again, you’ve been busy preparing for the opening ceremony, and the company has been trying its best to minimize the fallout from the matter, so it’s perfectly understandable that you missed it.” Wang Rui continued, “Just search his name and you’ll understand what happened.”
Yi Yunxue immediately took out her phone and searched for him in the browser. A news report instantly appeared:
“Skystar Entertainment General Manager Lin Anyuan Suspected of Accepting Bribes, Deliberately Targeting Company Artists, Blocking Resources, and Selling Company Resources Without Authorization. He Has Been Taken Away by the Police…”
According to the report, the evidence had been exposed by his wife in a fit of rage after discovering that he was having an affair.
And the woman he was involved with was actually Han Mei’s older sister?!
Yi Yunxue’s eyes widened. She had never expected such explosive news.
No wonder Han Mei had been able to snatch that song away from her!

So that was the connection between them.
Yi Yunxue’s expression became rather odd. She had previously assumed that Han Mei had won Lin Anyuan’s favor and obtained resources by pleasing him. After all, Han Mei had no background and not much ability, yet Lin Anyuan had always treated her exceptionally well.
When Yi Yunxue learned that Lin had given the song to Han Mei, she had been puzzled.
Han Mei was actually rather ordinary-looking among the company’s artists. What had Lin Anyuan possibly seen in her?
She had never imagined that the one who had offered herself to him was actually her older sister.
After learning the truth, Yi Yunxue found the whole thing both absurd and amusing.
“Mr. Chen, do you think we could get to know each other? Perhaps we could add each other on WeChat…” Wang Rui asked tentatively.
Chen Jiang saw through his intentions at a glance. With a smile, he said, “Getting acquainted is fine, but let’s skip WeChat. I’m currently the music director of Dreamrise Studio. If you have any need for cooperation, you can contact the person in charge of that area at our studio.”
Hearing this, Wang Rui could only leave dejectedly, pondering how he might later persuade Yi Yunxue to agree to a collaboration.
After watching him depart, Yi Yunxue said angrily, “When I was at odds with Skystar Entertainment, they all stayed as far away from me as possible. And now they’re pretending to be so enthusiastic.”
Chen Jiang smiled at her. “All right. I’ll help you receive guests from now on, so they won’t keep pestering you and asking who I am.”
…
At noon, Yi Yunxue reserved a large private room at a nearby hotel.
The studio did not have many employees yet—only a dozen or so people, most of them staff members holding important positions.
They would need to continue recruiting in the future.
Several employees had been recruited by Sister Li from her former company.
As for artists, Ma Ya was currently the only one.
Inside the private room, Yi Yunxue gave a brief opening speech.
When she finished, all the employees applauded.
“All right, everyone, let’s eat!”
As the company’s second-largest shareholder and its music director, Chen Jiang sat beside Yi Yunxue.
At first, Yi Yunxue had wanted him to take on the position of music director, but he had been somewhat unwilling.
Later, she told him that he would merely hold the title and would not need to concern himself with any routine matters unrelated to him.
Only then did he agree.
The reason she insisted on appointing Chen Jiang was that, in her opinion, no one was better suited for the position.
Even a renowned composer and lyricist would not dare guarantee that they understood music better than he did.
Judging from the few songs he had produced so far, who would have the ability to challenge him?
