Chapter 6: Coaxing Her Back

Qin’s mother, flustered, pulled out her phone and was about to call Su Mian.
“Mianmian, such a good girl, practically grew up with you, and took care of you tirelessly for three years while you were bedridden with that leg injury. How could you hurt her feelings like this?”
“Apologize to Mianmian immediately and bring her back.”
Qin Yunzheng stood up and grabbed his mother’s phone, angrily closing the call with Su Mian. Then he slammed the phone onto the table, sinking back onto the sofa with a dark, inscrutable expression, anger flickering in his eyes.
“What’s wrong with you? Have you really been bewitched by that vixen?” Qin’s mother glared furiously.
“This is none of your business. She’ll come back on her own in a few days,” he said impatiently, tugging at his loosened tie.
“Qin Yunzheng, I tell you, I recognize no one but my daughter-in-law,” she snapped.
“Don’t forget, the villa you’re living in, along with all those properties and luxury cars, are registered under Mianmian’s name.”
Qin Yunzheng’s face darkened. He picked up a lighter and irritably lit a cigarette. After taking a long drag, he crushed the butt heavily into the ashtray but couldn’t quell the turmoil inside.
He took a deep breath and looked up. “I need some time to think. Mom, you should go home now.”
“And one more thing—I have to warn you: if you break things off with Mianmian, not only will she demand full repayment of her father’s shares with interest, but your father and I will also transfer our shares to her. You can decide what to do.”
Seeing his indifferent demeanor, Qin’s mother, frustrated beyond words, clutched her chest and stormed out of the villa.
Qin Yunzheng furrowed his brow, feeling a headache coming on.
“Damn it!”
He threw the lighter across the room. It shattered a vase with a loud crash, startling the maids cleaning inside.
“Su Mian, what on earth are you up to? You even dare to run away from home?”
“Someday, you’ll be begging me to take you back!”
Clenching his fists, a sudden, sharp pain stabbed his stomach.
“Ugh, Su…” The pain was unbearable.
Qin Yunzheng frowned, instinctively wanting to call Su Mian, but he realized she had already left the villa.
The pain intensified, and a cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

He closed his eyes irritably, his fingers pressing against his belly turning pale from the pressure, but the stabbing pain only worsened.
In the past, whenever he had stomach pain, Su Mian would drop everything and rush over, her face full of worry and concern.
Now, she had no idea—he might as well die.
One of the maids, noticing his distress, hurried over to check.
“Young master, are you okay? Is your stomach hurting again? Do you want some medicine?”
He instinctively declined. Su Mian had told him medicine was poison; during his paralysis, he had already taken far too much.
Every time he drank and his stomach hurt, Su Mian would bring him a steaming bowl of porridge.
Drinking it always eased the pain considerably.
Qin Yunzheng shook his head, forcing himself to speak through the pain. “No need for medicine. Just cook me some porridge.”
“Alright, young master.”
Soon, a tempting bowl of porridge was placed before him.
He took a spoonful but immediately spat it onto the floor.
“Is this meant for a person? Even a five-star chef couldn’t make porridge this bad.”
It was nothing like the porridge Su Mian made. He slammed his palm on the table in frustration, as if wanting to smash it to pieces.
“Wang Ma, go make me a bowl just like Su Mian used to. I want that exact taste.”
Wang Ma looked troubled.
She glanced at the young master, hesitating before finally saying, “Young master, every time Miss Mian made you meat porridge, she soaked the rice overnight, added her own special ingredients in precise proportions, and controlled the heat perfectly. It’s impossible to replicate that flavor in such a short time.”
Qin Yunzheng was stunned, staring blankly at the porridge in his hand.
So… when Su Mian was still home, she was willing to spend so much time and effort, doing everything herself just to make a bowl of porridge.
He endured the pain, feeling an emptiness beside him.
It was because he was missing the person who used to rub his stomach for him…
——
Luming Apartments.
The balcony basked in gentle sunlight, evenly illuminating the small home Su Mian had carefully arranged over the past few days.
Though smaller than before, it was cozy and inviting. It had been a long time since Su Mian had enjoyed such a perfect, lazy sleep.

After lingering in bed for a while, Su Mian got up, dressed in an adorable white rabbit pajama set.
On the balcony, vibrant roses bloomed passionately, showing off their beauty.
Su Mian picked up the watering can and gave the flowers a drink.
The blossoms seemed almost sentient, stretching their petals freely under the trickling water.
After watering, her mood lightened considerably.
She smiled at her reflection in the mirror, patting her cheek gently.
“Su Mian, congratulations on escaping the fire pit. From now on, your life will be bright…”
She cheered herself on, bolstering her courage.
For the first time, she realized how unreliable men truly were. How painfully true that was.
But thankfully, she had broken free. Though the separation was painful, it was also a kind of rebirth.
Su Mian sat before her computer and opened the browser, searching for Intai International.
She had set her sights on this company even before graduating. It was a formidable enterprise, where only the elite could enter.
When she first graduated, her dream was to work there.
But after Qin Yunzheng’s car accident and leg injury, she had given up on that goal.
The recruitment page brought pleasant surprise, and she submitted her resume with one click.
Su Ming believed firmly that with her expertise, she could confidently enter as an executive assistant.
After finishing, Su Mian shut down the computer and picked up a book in the living room, reading with great interest.
Sure enough, the next day she received an interview invitation from Intai International, scheduled for 4 p.m.
Just as Su Mian was about to set out, her phone rang. It was Lin Xiu.
“Mianmian, have you made up your mind? Are you really determined to cut ties with the Qin family?”
Su Mian answered honestly, “Yes, I’ve moved out of the Qin residence and am already looking for a job.”
Lin Xiu’s voice carried a hint of anger from the other end. “Since you’re going to work, contact your eldest brother immediately. Have him arrange a position for you at Huo Corporation.”
