Chapter Five: If You Interfere, You Will Bear the Consequences
Yu Wanqiao let out two cold, mocking laughs in her heart. She swung the tree branch again, scaring Wu Yu into taking several steps back.
“Wu Yu, I advise you to stay away from me,” Yu Wanqiao warned him with a sharp gaze.
She felt utterly disgusted by the captions that floated across the screen. She never expected that, in Wu Yu’s eyes, she actually liked him.
For once, Yu Wanqiao reflected on herself.
Both she and Wu Yu had entered the Xuantian Sect from childhood. Shortly after she joined, the sect master Guo had...
She knew that Wu Yu was jealous of her for becoming a disciple of Qingfeng Zhenjun.
But for some unknown reason later on, Wu Yu began appearing frequently in front of her.
Wu Yu had no great talent and often hid in corners, secretly crying.
Young Yu Wanqiao, full of a sense of justice, often practiced alongside him.
However, Wu Yu seemed like a different person as he grew older—no longer dependent on her as before, but always sneering and mocking whenever they met.
At first, Yu Wanqiao did not understand, but she soon realized Wu Yu’s jealousy toward her.
He was envious that she could effortlessly master sword techniques that he had to struggle to learn.
Yu Wanqiao, with strong morals, believed that as the senior disciple, she must not disappoint anyone’s expectations.
Wu Yu never saw the hard work behind her; all he did was sneer and say, “It’s only talent without substance. If I had her gifts, I wouldn’t be worse than her—maybe even better.”
There are always those better, beyond the best.
Yu Wanqiao never slackened, yet in the end, she was defamed like this.
But she consoled herself not to care about him.
Instead, Wu Yu’s attacks became more vicious.
Yu Wanqiao didn’t know why she had been so foolish back then.
Not caring, not caring—until one day, she might really lose control because of him.
Now, she no longer wanted to suppress her true nature under the guise of being the senior disciple.
After all, no one in the Xuantian Sect liked her.
Seeing Wu Yu still babbling on, she had no patience left and struck him several more times.
Unlike before when she only pretended to scare him, now every move landed squarely on Wu Yu.
Caught off guard and struck, Wu Yu screamed out loud.
“Yu Wanqiao! You’re still only at the Qi Refining stage. It’s a pity that Junior Sister Bai still tries to speak up for you. Looks like if I don’t teach you a lesson today, you won’t even know how to spell my name!”
“Wu Yu, if you were like me today, are you sure you could compare to me? You will never surpass me, not in the past and not now. Since everyone calls me a genius, then I must live up to that name, or else you will be disappointed.”
Wu Yu’s forehead bulged with veins from anger. He clenched his sword tightly but was stopped by someone beside him.
“Senior Brother! Let it be. She’s only at the Qi Refining stage now. If Qingfeng Zhenjun hasn’t convicted Sister Yu yet, I’m afraid that if he softens his heart later, she might be spared.”
Wu Yu hesitated for a moment before sheathing his sword. When he looked up again, all he saw was Yu Wanqiao’s back.
...
What bad luck, having to get entangled with these people.
To avoid encountering such situations again, she took a detour and continued walking.
She had originally planned to take this path, but unexpectedly, Wu Yu was heading toward the Lanyue Pavilion.
It seemed that if she didn’t leave today, Wu Yu would find a way to force her to go.
Only after returning to her residence did she feel somewhat at ease.
When she was disheartened before, she had discovered this place—a cave.
Yu Wanqiao observed it carefully and realized it was also an excellent place for cultivation.
Bai Chuwei had been at Xuantian Pavilion for over half a year, coinciding with the time Yu Wanqiao left Lanyue Pavilion to break through her cultivation.
When Bai Chuwei returned from seclusion, she found that the Lanyue Pavilion had changed owners.
Yu Wanqiao shook her head, telling herself not to think about it anymore.
She was here now on urgent business.
Entering the cave, she found everything intact and breathed a sigh of relief.
However, when she examined the protective barrier she had set earlier, she sensed something was off.
But there was no sign of anyone forcibly breaking in.
She had lived here for some time, yet neither her good junior brother nor her master inquired about her whereabouts after she left Lanyue Pavilion.
There wasn’t much in this place.
Yu Wanqiao chanted an incantation, and a box appeared not far away.
A smile brightened her face.
It was still here.
She stepped forward, picked it up, and dusted off the surface.
Inside were the Millennium Snow Lotuses.
When she learned that Qingfeng Zhenjun had failed his ascension and suffered some damage to his heart meridian, she had searched far and wide for methods to heal it.
At last, her efforts paid off.
She had heard from others that the Millennium Snow Lotus had appeared, but many cultivators could not withstand the mountain’s biting cold.
Though Yu Wanqiao was outstanding among her peers, many with cultivation levels above the Golden Core stage had not survived the snow mountain.
...
But Yu Wanqiao had seen Qingfeng Zhenjun’s fragile state due to the damaged heart meridian.
So she had risked everything to venture into the snow mountain.
She obtained the Millennium Snow Lotus and nearly lost her life.
Since childhood, she knew she couldn’t die. Every time she was on the brink of death, she would see a vague figure.
When she woke again, she would be unharmed.
She had tried to uncover the truth but eventually gave up.
At that time, she had no time to think and brought the snow lotus back.
She had expected to be punished for leaving for a month, but no one even cared where she had gone.
Disheartened, she stowed the Millennium Snow Lotus away.
At first, she had been annoyed and casually tossed it into the cave.
Now, she was glad she hadn’t given it to Qingfeng Zhenjun immediately.
Opening the box, however, she found it empty.
A chill ran through her heart.
She was furious beyond measure.
Who had taken the snow lotus from her residence while she was away?
“Why is the supporting female character so angry?” came a voice from the captions.
“Probably a newcomer upstairs? The supporting female just discovered her snow lotus was taken by her good junior brother and given to the female lead—she’s furious.”
“The plot sometimes doesn’t quite add up, but luckily the story’s direction hasn’t changed. Heeheehee, we get to see our heroine again.”
Yu Wanqiao saw these captions again.
At last, she understood: whenever the story touched on Bai Chuwei’s tale, these captions would appear.
For the first time, she didn’t dislike these scrolling comments.
Her eyes grew cold.
She threw the box to the ground, grabbed her broken sword, and left the cave.
...
“Senior Sister? Why are you coming out?”
“Hey hey hey, you can’t go in there!”
Yu Wanqiao raised her sword. “Who dares stop me?”
“Umm...”
The surrounding disciples looked at each other nervously, not daring to make a move against Yu Wanqiao.
Although they all knew that her cultivation level had fallen to the Qi Refining stage, the fierce aura she radiated made everyone hesitate.
They nudged each other, but no one spoke.
“I alone will bear all consequences. If you block me, you do so at your own risk.”
