Chapter Six: She Simply Popped the Snow Lotus into Her Mouth and Chewed, Chewed, Chewed
"Xie Wenyun!"
The onlookers did not stop her this time. Yu Wanqiao sheathed her sword and stormed in, burning with rage.
"Second Senior Brother, is this snow lotus for me?" Bai Chuwei looked at the snow lotus in her hand, casting a timid glance toward Xie Wenyun.
Watching her delicate and compliant demeanor, Xie Wenyun could not help but smile. "If it was given to you, it is naturally yours."
"But... Fourth Senior Brother has a wood-attribute spiritual root. How could he have possibly plucked this ten-thousand-year snow lotus from the snowy peaks..." Bai Chuwei hesitated, unable to bring herself to accept it. Suddenly, as if realizing something, her expression froze. "Is this... Senior Sister Yu's?"
Seeing Bai Chuwei bring up Yu Wanqiao, Xie Wenyun’s expression turned cold. "Yu Wanqiao drove you out so she could move back into Lanyue Pavilion, forcing you to live here with me. Added to everything else she has done, she owes you this. Since our junior brother gave it to you, you should keep it."
Hearing Xie Wenyun say this, Bai Chuwei’s mood improved significantly. Neither of them mentioned the oath Yu Wanqiao had sworn back then. They said nothing of how difficult it was to pluck a ten-thousand-year snow lotus. And no one bothered to ask if Yu Wanqiao agreed.
When Yu Wanqiao entered, she was greeted by the sight of a docile junior sister and a doting senior brother. If she weren't one of the protagonists in this scene, she might have actually applauded. In fact, she did just that. She clapped her hands and said with a smile, "What a picture of peaceful, golden years."
Both of them instinctively turned to look at her. Xie Wenyun was the first to react, frowning at her. "Who let you in? Why aren't you staying put in Lanyue Pavilion? Why are you running around? Don't think that just because Master allowed you to return to Lanyue Pavilion to heal that he has let you off the hook. You destroyed your own natal sword; Master hasn't even punished you yet, and here you are, delivering yourself to his doorstep."
Yu Wanqiao did not even look at him. She turned to Bai Chuwei and said, "Little Junior Sister, that snow lotus in your hand is mine. You understand the principle that taking something without asking is theft, don't you?"
Bai Chuwei looked instinctively at Xie Wenyun, only to find him staring fixedly at Yu Wanqiao. She looked at the snow lotus in her hand, ultimately unable to bear the thought of returning it. She knew it belonged to Yu Wanqiao, but she herself lacked the talent for cultivation. If she had the help of this snow lotus, she could clear her meridians and begin cultivating anew. She said nothing, merely hiding behind Xie Wenyun.
"Senior Sister, I'm sorry..."
As soon as Yu Wanqiao heard this, she knew Bai Chuwei had no intention of returning it, and her expression chilled. She had come here for two reasons: first, to take back the snow lotus; if she couldn't... At this thought, she tightened her grip on her sword, *Guilai*. If she couldn't have it, she would destroy this ten-thousand-year treasure that everyone coveted. The world had never expected that *she* would be the one to pluck it. She didn't know how Bai Chuwei and the others had found out it was in her possession.
"Xie Wenyun, I will say this one more time: return the snow lotus to me."
Xie Wenyun caught a glimpse of Bai Chuwei’s timid posture out of the corner of his eye and, assuming she was frightened, glared at Yu Wanqiao with even greater anger. "You have merely fallen to the Qi Condensation stage, while Junior Sister has no talent for immortality at all! Do you not realize that this snow lotus would be far more useful to her than it would be to you?"
Yu Wanqiao had not expected Xie Wenyun to be so unreasonable. This deepened her understanding of him. How could he have the gall to state such things with such a veneer of righteousness? Her own possession, when used by her, was suddenly considered worthless.
*“You lost a leg, but she lost her true love!”*
*“Why does the heroine seem so manipulative for the first time? Looking at her, she clearly doesn't want to return the item to the supporting female character.”*
*“This snow lotus is the heroine’s destiny! Only with this can she clear her meridians. If it were you, would you return it to the supporting character? Besides, the heroine didn't ask for it—the male supporting characters gave it to her voluntarily. Our heroine should just shine on her own.”*
Too lazy to look at these scrolling comments any longer, Yu Wanqiao waited until Xie Wenyun was distracted and immediately lunged with her sword toward Bai Chuwei. As expected, Xie Wenyun’s pupils contracted, and he moved to strike Yu Wanqiao away with a palm blast.
But Yu Wanqiao swerved her hips, diverted the trajectory of her sword, and stabbed it into Xie Wenyun's chest instead. Before he could recover from the shock, she snatched the snow lotus and shoved it straight into her mouth.
*Crunch, crunch, crunch.*
Although consuming it raw was suboptimal, it was at least better than letting it fall into someone else's hands.
The subtitles began scrolling wildly again.
*“Wait, am I seeing this right? Did the villainess just turn into Runtu?”*
*“This move by the villainess was so unexpected! The heroine and the male lead are both stunned.”*
Yu Wanqiao chewed a few times and swallowed immediately, terrified that Xie Wenyun might pry it out of her mouth the next second. She had guessed that Xie Wenyun wouldn't stand by and watch when she attacked Bai Chuwei, and since he knew she was only at the Qi Condensation stage, he wouldn't waste too much effort to deal with her.
"You?" Xie Wenyun pulled the sword from his chest.
Fortunately, the wound was not deep. Seeing her turning point for fate vanish just like that, Bai Chuwei could not help but shed tears. She ran to Xie Wenyun’s side, weeping as she looked at his wound. "Senior Brother, are you alright?" She turned, sobbing, toward Yu Wanqiao, "Senior Sister, I’m sorry, I didn't mean to. If you hate me, take it out on me, don't hurt Senior Brother Xie..."
"Bai Chuwei, stop putting on that act for me. Xie Wenyun and the others might fall for it and pity you, but I don't buy it. This was my item to begin with, and I will deal with it how I please."
Yu Wanqiao snorted coldly. "Don't think I don't know that it was you who spread the word throughout the Profound Heaven Sect that my cultivation had fallen to the Qi Condensation stage."
Bai Chuwei’s voice stopped abruptly. Xie Wenyun also looked at her. Bai Chuwei felt a surge of panic and began to stammer an explanation. Xie Wenyun suddenly realized that in just a few short days, the news about Yu Wanqiao had indeed spread across the entire sect.
Realizing Xie Wenyun was looking at her with suspicion, Bai Chuwei turned back to Yu Wanqiao. "It wasn't me, it wasn't! I... everyone came to ask me, and I... I only said a few words, I don't even know what I said, please don't force me..." She covered her ears and began to cry.
So noisy. Yu Wanqiao felt nothing but annoyance at Bai Chuwei’s habit of crying whenever she encountered a problem. Xie Wenyun, watching Bai Chuwei, couldn't help but frown. He didn't care much about the matter; after all, it was a settled fact. Even if Bai Chuwei hadn't said it, someone else would have.
"Alright, stop crying."
Yu Wanqiao clapped her hands, ignored the two of them, and walked toward where her sword, *Guilai*, had fallen. Just as she reached to pick it up, Xie Wenyun grabbed her wrist. Yu Wanqiao finally lifted her gaze to look at him.
"What do you want?"
Seeing that Xie Wenyun was genuinely enraged, Yu Wanqiao tried to pull away, but her current cultivation was no match for what it once was. In just a few movements, she was pinned beneath him, his hand clamped tightly around her throat.
"Cough, cough, cough."
