Chapter Thirty-Four: Zhang San's Return
"Your Majesty... what is an Iron Golem?"
Aly had the good habit of asking whenever she didn’t understand.
Mo Fangyuan’s excitement was instantly extinguished. Aly’s question made him realize that this world wasn’t entirely the same as "Minecraft," and perhaps the high-powered unit known as the Iron Golem had been changed by magic here as well.
“Besides, I don’t even have a pumpkin...”
In the original game, the pumpkin head crafted from pumpkins was the core part of an Iron Golem’s body. Unfortunately, this crop was entirely absent from the Block Kingdom.
Pumpkins were rare to begin with and might only be found in forest or jungle biomes. Of course, there was a minuscule chance of finding them elsewhere, but it was nearly impossible.
And in all the maps of the Block Kingdom, neither forests nor jungles had ever been recorded.
There was simply no way to even begin searching for pumpkins.
“It’s alright, I’ll find one someday...”
At the very least, the Iron Golem had given Mo Fangyuan new hope and a new path, so that he wouldn’t be limited to relying solely on people.
If there weren’t enough combat professionals, then machines could make up for it. After all, the greatest pride of the Block People was their intelligence and the ability to synthesize tools.
Anyone who’d watched "Annoying Villagers" would know just how powerful Iron Golems could be.
Physical pain, machinery...
“No, what am I thinking!”
Shaking off these unrealistic thoughts, Mo Fangyuan continued organizing the construction of defenses within the Block Kingdom.
Right now, the kingdom had ample resources—enough to last a long time. Mo Fangyuan’s task was to turn those numbers piled up in warehouses into real national strength.
“We don’t need too many crossbows, but we should store some. Same for arrows and other tools...”
Manpower was the most important resource here, a truth magnified endlessly in the Block World.
And gaining enough population was the kingdom’s main objective at present.
Strolling along the edge of the potato fields, feeling the gentle breeze and the aroma of the earth, some of Mo Fangyuan’s anxiety and fear for the future melted away.
“If I’ve come this far in just half a year, I refuse to believe I can’t keep succeeding... I can do it!”
The farmers in the fields worked with laughter and chatter. Seeing this, Mo Fangyuan smiled.
“Perhaps this is the meaning of my arrival in this world.”
After wandering along the fields for a while, his spirits lifted, Mo Fangyuan was about to get back to work.
"Your Majesty... um, there’s someone at the city gate calling himself Zhang San. We’re not sure how to handle him, so you’d better take a look yourself."
He hadn’t even warmed his seat when a guard reported Zhang San’s return.
But from the guard’s hesitant tone, it seemed something was off about Zhang San. Just how off, Mo Fangyuan would have to see for himself.
“Oh? Zhang San is back? That’s good news!”
Mo Fangyuan didn’t notice the guard’s uncertainty and headed straight for the north gate.
He was eager to find out what was happening in the west, and whether the Block Kingdom could profit from it.
“Your Majesty!! I almost couldn’t make it back!”
Mo Fangyuan finally met Zhang San as he’d hoped, but...
He nearly stumbled in shock. The stunning, graceful woman before him—was she really Zhang San?
“You’re Zhang San?!”
Mo Fangyuan rubbed his eyes in disbelief, then rubbed them again, trying to tell if she was real.
Unless he’d lost his memory, Zhang San should be a towering, burly bald man!
How had he turned into a peerless beauty with porcelain skin and long legs?
“Your Majesty! I really am Zhang San! You were the one who sent me to scout the west! You promised me a high position when I got back!”
Seeing Mo Fangyuan’s skepticism, Zhang San grew anxious and began listing Mo Fangyuan’s less dignified moments for proof.
“Yes! Your Majesty! I have a red birthmark on my backside—you’ve seen it!”
Seeing Mo Fangyuan’s face darken, Zhang San shrank back and switched to more appropriate proofs of identity.
That only made Mo Fangyuan’s expression even darker.
He knew this person could only be Zhang San—no one else would talk like that.
“Enough! Quiet! I know you’re Zhang San, stop shouting!”
After dismissing the crowd, Mo Fangyuan led Zhang San to his study.
He was still having trouble adjusting, finding the whole situation absurd.
If memory served, there wasn’t any mod in "Minecraft" that could turn a man into a woman!
“So... Zhang San, how did you end up like this?”
He didn’t ask about the situation in the west right away; instead, he was more interested in how Zhang San had become a woman.
This was far more intriguing than any intelligence from the west!
“Alas, Your Majesty, it’s a long story...”
Once started, Zhang San poured out his grievances, detailing his enormous contributions and sacrifices for the Block Kingdom.
“Stop.”
“So you stumbled into a deep cave and received some bizarre inheritance?”
Zhang San wisely left out the conversation with the multi-colored experience orb—some things were just too much.
“Isn’t this the protagonist’s script?”
Mo Fangyuan scrutinized Zhang San, the more he looked, the more she resembled the lead in a gender-bender story.
“Hm, alright... Go get changed first, then meet me in the grove of the back garden.”
He wanted to test her abilities right away, but seeing Zhang San’s attire, he decided to wait.
Her armor and clothing had been incinerated by red flames during her transformation, and now she was only wrapped in a piece of cotton cloth.
Her curves were barely concealed, especially in the regions just below her neck and above her thighs.
Mo Fangyuan was afraid he might lose control and do something unspeakable.
“Form is emptiness; emptiness is form.”
“Get it together, Mo Fangyuan! She used to be a scruffy brute—her equipment might have been bigger than yours!”
At that thought, he couldn’t help but glance at Zhang San’s retreating figure.
“That inheritance is really something, to turn a man into a woman...”
Not far away, having just left the castle, Zhang San was stopped by someone—Lin Ye, a comrade who had once fought by his side.
Zhang San immediately sensed a complex emotion from Lin Ye: excitement, sympathy, maybe even schadenfreude.
“How did you end up like this?”
Before Zhang San could reply, Lin Ye asked first.
“Was forced to inherit a magical girl mage template...”
Having fought and camped together, Zhang San didn’t hide anything, repeating what he’d told Mo Fangyuan.
“Excellent, excellent!”
Lin Ye grew more animated, patting Zhang San’s fair shoulder and speaking solemnly.
“From now on, we’re comrades!”
“Comrades?”
Zhang San hadn’t figured out what was going on before Lin Ye skipped away happily...
“What a baffling reaction!”
Zhang San didn’t dwell on it. He focused on dressing properly—after all, he was about to see His Majesty.
“I haven’t even received my official post yet. I wonder what position His Majesty will give me!”
Now the Block Kingdom was a grand realm with over two hundred people. Being an official here would surely be rewarding!
At that thought, Zhang San too skipped away, though not with the same enthusiasm as Lin Ye...
After all, their joys were not of the same kind...
Zhang San’s house was one built by Mo Fangyuan especially for those who had rendered great service to the kingdom.
For the blocky natives, it was a mansion: spacious and two stories tall.
Human desire is never satisfied; once you have something, you long for something better.
Block People were no exception.
That was why Mo Fangyuan designed these detached homes—to inspire people’s yearning for a better life, and thus, to encourage them to work even harder!
