Chapter Seventy-Two: The Breeding of Horses
The Essence of the Zombie Giant
This precious vial of liquid had been carefully kept by Mo Fangyuan, never used. Part of the reason was that he did not fully understand what effects the white fluid within would produce. To unravel its mysteries, Mo Fangyuan had conducted countless experiments, and by now, he was fairly certain of its outcome. Essentially, it was a trade: reason exchanged for raw power, with intelligence lost to the primal instincts of the body. That instinct bore the name desire—yes, the very desire you are thinking of. In common parlance, it is lust, but in the language of zoologists, it is the mating instinct.
Thus, using this on the stallion was entirely appropriate. "Are you not up to the task? No problem! Let me give you a little boost!"
"Someone, bring over that stubborn horse and tie him up!"
To prevent unnecessary struggles, Mo Fangyuan decided it was best to restrain the stallion beforehand.
"Yes!"
When Mo Fangyuan produced the bottle containing the white liquid, the staff seemed to understand and exchanged mischievous smiles. In this era, where entertainment was scarce, watching animal breeding was a pleasant diversion—a chance to learn, after all. Moreover, the staff had long been annoyed by that stallion.
After some commotion, the stallion was trussed up like a festival dumpling by the suddenly attentive workers. At first, the stallion wore a confused, almost human expression upon realizing it had been bound. But seeing the ill-intentioned crowd, and especially the two-legged being with something golden atop his head, holding that white vial and giving it an inscrutable look, the stallion immediately sensed trouble.
It struggled desperately, but to no avail—its fate had been meticulously arranged.
"Don't be nervous! It will be over quickly, and soon you'll experience unprecedented pleasure... You'll thank me for this..."
The staff laughed like henchmen from a villain's tale.
"Heh heh heh..."
"Heh heh heh..."
"Heh heh heh..."
Not wanting to drag things out, Mo Fangyuan poured half the Essence of the Zombie Giant into the stallion's mouth, then ordered the staff to untie the ropes.
"Quick, get away from here!"
Before the potion took effect, Mo Fangyuan urged the staff to retreat from the meadow. Otherwise, once the effects hit, the stallion might inadvertently injure the block people.
Animals in heat are notoriously aggressive—a widely acknowledged fact. Hearing the King's warning, the staff did not dare linger, hurrying away lest they be caught in the chaos.
The potion's effect began to manifest. From a distance, the crowd watched as the stallion's aura changed dramatically. That was... the scent of heat!
The stallion began to sway, at times running, at times rolling. The whole horse seemed transformed.
The young mares, drawn by the stallion's new aura, gathered around, curious about his state.
The stallion, now in heat, caught the scent of females and began to struggle fiercely, with reason and primal instinct warring within.
"The show is about to begin!" The block people chuckled.
With a shred of reason left, the stallion tried to distance itself from the mares, backing away.
"It's losing control!"
The stallion's endurance finally snapped. The trigger: a black-and-white mare, enticed by the stallion's scent, approached and licked its body.
With a sudden surge, the stallion mounted the black-and-white mare, acting before she could even react.
Some staff were astonished.
But it was not over yet. With reason gone, ruled by instinct, the stallion, after finishing with the black-and-white mare, charged at the others. Next was the yellow mare; ignoring her resistance, he forced himself upon her.
Throughout the afternoon, strange clapping sounds echoed across the paddock, bewildering the block people passing by.
Night fell, and torches were lit around the paddock. The faint red glow shone upon the lush, oily grass.
From midday to evening, the effects of the Essence of the Zombie Giant finally wore off. The stallion, exhausted, ended its exertions and collapsed, frothing at the mouth.
The horse lay as if struck by lightning, resembling a skeletal steed, so thin that its bones were plainly visible.
"This horse is really..." One staff member began, but found it hard to finish.
"Ferocious!" replied the self-proclaimed expert, immediately earning everyone's agreement.
"Ah! This is no ordinary horse!"
"Agreed!"
"+1"
Mo Fangyuan was clearly shaken. Pure as he was, he'd never witnessed such a scene.
"To be honest, I regret using the potion on it..." Mo Fangyuan felt a pang of loss, thinking that had he saved it for himself, he might have enjoyed it even more.
With regret, Mo Fangyuan decided to leave this sordid place.
"To think I wasted half a day here! Shameful, truly shameful... It's all that stallion's fault!"
Truth be told, Mo Fangyuan had expected the Essence of the Zombie Giant to produce only "wildness," never imagining its effects would be so intense, completely overtaking the stallion's mind.
On second thought, after today's exertion, those four mares should all be pregnant, shouldn't they? With such enthusiasm, not to conceive would defy nature.
"With so many attempts in half a day, I refuse to believe none are pregnant!"
In the block world, horses gestate for about two weeks, typically bearing one foal at a time. It takes two to three months for a foal to mature.
"Hmm..." Mo Fangyuan decided to check back in two months. For now, let the stallion recover; when the female offspring mature, he'd bring them to the stallion, along with the current four, to breed further!
Let him be even happier!
In this block world, biology didn't exist, so hereditary diseases never appeared. Close kin marriages were permitted. In other words, things like bone-related unions weren't impossible...
"But I don't have a sister!"
Mo Fangyuan had spent nearly the whole day at the paddock, realizing he'd forgotten to carry out his catapult plans. He was deeply curious about the combat effectiveness of a block-world catapult.
Whoosh, whoosh...
After half a day of wild wind and snow, another storm began to rage as night approached.
For weeks, the weather had been relentlessly harsh—frequent storms and blizzards vexed everyone.
Of course, for the block people, it was merely bothersome, but for the monsters, it was a source of terror. Lacking body heat, monsters struggled to survive the bitter cold. Both the Skeleton King’s and Zombie King’s forces suffered massive casualties among their soldiers.
Winter had truly arrived, and nowhere did it fit better than among the monster factions.
