Chapter Two: Repaying the Debt
Xu Si suddenly clenched her fists tightly, gritting her teeth to suppress any sound. After the pain subsided, she closed her eyes briefly, then hopped on one foot to the bedroom to fetch the toolbox.
Grabbing a small electric saw, she cast a sinister glance at Nan Xian—the solid wood sofa beside him.
“Damn it, you’re so stubborn, huh?”
The sound of sawing wood crackled sharply. Nan Xian, now awake, watched Xu Si panting as she worked, quietly retreating to a corner. Despite his usual scatterbrained nature, he finally realized that the lightning strike that day was definitely tampered with by the person in front of him.
“So it really is a vengeful spirit!”
“What did you say?” Xu Si shot him a sharp glare.
“I said, what on earth does the King of Hell do that could let… um, what’s your name again?”
“Xu Si,” she replied calmly, turning back to grab a sack. Keeping an eye on Nan Xian, she tossed the severed arms and legs of the sofa’s remains inside.
The scene before them looked eerily like a dismemberment site. Nan Xian swallowed nervously. “No, I have to go down personally and ask how they do their work—how could they let Miss Xu wander the mortal world and suffer as a human?”
After packing away the last sofa leg, Xu Si didn’t even look up. “Do you want to listen to the nonsense you’re spouting?”
“Doesn’t matter. A vengeful spirit wandering the mortal realm is taboo. I must go now.”
“You…”
Xu Si glanced back impatiently, and Nan Xian immediately stood upright.
She couldn’t help but chuckle. “What are you afraid of? I’m not going to kill you.”
After all, the piercing pain on her instep was a constant reminder that this godly lord could strike or miss with ease.
Clearing his throat with a hint of grievance, Nan Xian said, “But you made me feel like I almost got dismembered by a vengeful spirit.”
“That’s impossible…” Xu Si smiled sincerely.
Nan Xian lowered his gaze toward the electric saw and scattered wood at her feet, his face clearly reading: Yeah right, I’m the one who should be scared.
Following his gaze, Xu Si’s eyes flickered nervously, feeling inexplicably guilty.
“Isn’t this dismemberment enough?”
“You really dare to think so?” Nan Xian pointed at her nose, his lips trembling with anger. “You stole my body, ruined my thunder tribulation, yet I don’t hold it against you, and now you want to destroy the evidence? You venomous woman!”
“Oh.” Xu Si finished packing the last piece of wood, stood on one foot, lifted the sack, picked up the saw, and measured Nan Xian’s height again. “How do you prove this body belongs to you?”
The familiar gaze sent a chill down Nan Xian’s spine, but recalling that he was a divine second generation, he straightened up immediately.
“This body was shaped by me, modeled after the most beautiful woman in the divine realm, and her life was personally penned by the Fate Commissioner. I guarantee there is only one life like this in heaven and earth!”
“That’s true!” Xu Si nodded in agreement. “There really is only one such uniquely tormented life in heaven and earth.”
