Chapter 120: A Visit from Fatty Wang
Whoosh!
Daoist Master Hao Er did not truly reveal himself; he merely flicked his sleeve when he saw that Chang Yu had indeed resolved to walk deeper into the valley.
In an instant, a violent gust of wind swept out from the depths, carrying the bewildered Chang Yu out of Fu Ling Valley.
As sand and pebbles flew, Chang Yu felt his body rapidly being borne backward by the wind, and vaguely, it seemed as if he was soaring into the sky.
That familiar pull reappeared, and the dizzying sensation of weightlessness left him dazed and lightheaded.
In a haze, Chang Yu felt as though he’d pierced through a membrane of light, crossing from one side to the other.
Passing through the membrane was a peculiar feeling, as though his entire being was enveloped in seawater, every pore soaked through.
It was… as smooth as silk.
The next moment, Chang Yu woke abruptly in the real world.
He gulped for breath, gasping like a drowning man who has just broken the surface, greedily craving every bit of air.
The scene that had just transpired was still vivid in his mind. Instinctively, Chang Yu glanced around at his surroundings.
The familiar ceiling, the familiar white walls, the familiar wooden bed, the familiar bedroom.
Everything told Chang Yu that he had just awakened from a dream and returned to reality.
Since awakening his gift and meeting Daoist Master Hao Er in his dreams, he had never encountered such an unusual situation.
Previously, he would always be drawn back to the real world naturally when the time came.
He had never realized—
It turned out that an external force could also eject him from Fu Ling Valley!
What was this?
Was it an expulsion?
You might not believe it if I told you: My master refused to chat with me—and sent me back to the real world.
Of course, what truly unsettled Chang Yu was that Daoist Master Hao Er actually possessed the power to force him out of the dream and back into reality.
Could it be that Daoist Master Hao Er’s strength had reached such a level?
Could he even influence the will of the world?
He then recalled the words Daoist Master Hao Er had once spoken.
Daoist Master Hao Er had said before that, with his strength, there were few who could harm him.
Back then, Chang Yu had just laughed it off, thinking the master was boasting.
But now, it seemed he might not have been bragging at all!
Perhaps… it was all true, and Chang Yu simply hadn’t believed him.
Glancing at the pale, early morning sky outside the window, Chang Yu thought of sleeping a bit more.
But as he lay in bed, thoughts of Daoist Master Hao Er kept turning over and over in his mind; he simply could not fall asleep.
“Forget it, I might as well get up and make breakfast.” He glanced at Yang Yang, who was still sleeping soundly, and thus made up his mind.
...
Clang! Clatter!
Bang! Crash!
Sizzle! Crackle!
At dawn, a cacophony erupted from the kitchen, loud enough to shake the heavens.
It was the sound of pots, bowls, and pans colliding, of spatulas clanging against the iron wok, of the kitchen knife rhythmically chopping on the cutting board.
Chang Yu hummed a tune as he tossed the chopped vegetables into the oil, stirring them, and flipped on the exhaust hood.
Immersed in the joy of cooking, Chang Yu was oblivious to just how lethal his noise was to anyone trying to sleep in.
Slivers of sound seeped from the kitchen into the bedroom; in the silent morning, those noises seemed to be magnified countless times as they reached Yang Yang’s ears.
Yang Yang immediately scrunched his adorable brows, his face contorted in agony, his lips pouting high.
“Heavens! Making such a racket first thing in the morning—how is anyone supposed to live?” Yang Yang struggled to get up but was ultimately subdued by the power of sleep.
Faced with fatigue, drowsiness, and laziness—all those invisible enemies—Yang Yang simply pressed his pillow down over his ears.
And so, his little face half-buried under a massive pillow, Yang Yang fell asleep once more.
But peace was short-lived; suddenly, a fit of violent coughing burst from the kitchen, startling Yang Yang just as he was drifting off.
Being yanked from the edge of sleep is a most dreadful feeling.
It’s as though someone has forcibly dragged you out of chaos into abrupt clarity.
In that instant, the fury and negativity welling up inside are enough to overwhelm a person.
“I’m going mad, I’m going mad!”
Yang Yang furiously pummeled his pillow, venting all his anger and frustration on the hapless object.
Only after some time did he manage to calm himself, finally pulling the covers over his head.
But even with the blanket muffling him, the noise was relentless, creeping into his ears and making it impossible to endure any longer.
A man’s breaking point often arrives in an instant.
Unable to sleep any further, Yang Yang finally snapped and shouted, “Chang Yu! Chang Yu!”
“I beg you, can’t you be quieter?”
Chang Yu didn’t answer, mainly because the exhaust hood’s roar drowned out Yang Yang’s cries, and he simply didn’t hear.
Stomp, stomp, stomp!
At his wits’ end, Yang Yang leapt out of bed, barefoot, and padded over to Chang Yu.
“Hey! Can’t you keep it down?” Yang Yang stood hands on hips, ready to scold.
Perhaps Chang Yu was too busy with his cooking, or perhaps—Yang Yang’s demands had always been selectively ignored by him.
In any case, Chang Yu paid him no mind.
“Oh, you’re up?” Chang Yu muttered to himself. “If you’re awake, then let’s eat.”
“It’s so hard to communicate with you,” Yang Yang grumbled. “Other people’s cooking costs money; yours is costing my life!”
With that, he huffed off to wash up.
Having ladled out the porridge and set the side dishes on the table, Chang Yu went to the window.
“Katerina! Katerina!” he called down to the window below.
“Something up?” Though it was early, Katerina was already awake, her head poking out from her window.
She was already washed and dressed, makeup tastefully applied, looking no different from usual.
Most girls nowadays woke up late, but she was the self-disciplined sort; early to bed and early to rise was her way.
Chang Yu was a bit disappointed not to catch her with messy, uncombed hair.
He’d hoped to see what she looked like before she’d tidied up.
She must look… rather adorable, he thought.
“Come up for breakfast!” Chang Yu invited enthusiastically.
“Give me a moment,” Katerina replied, not bothering with formalities.
At the dining table, Chang Yu sat up straight, waiting for Katerina’s arrival.
Just then, the doorbell rang, and Chang Yu leapt up in excitement.
“That was fast!” he muttered as he opened the door.
But seeing a man, not a woman, standing there, Chang Yu froze.
“Brother Wang!” he exclaimed in surprise. “What brings you here?”
Who else could it be but Fat Wang?
He was beaming, his face glowing with happiness, holding two silk banners as if bearing great news.
On one banner, it read, “Master of Men’s Medicine, Healer of the People”; the other, “Miracle Hand Restores Spring, Second Parents…”
Such a scene—
It all felt strangely familiar to Chang Yu.
It seemed that chief physicians at men’s clinics always hung a couple of these banners to showcase their skills.
Fat Wang seized Chang Yu’s hand, eyes brimming with grateful tears. “Chang Yu, thank you! My wife is finally pregnant.”
“All thanks to you—otherwise, she never would have conceived.”
At first hearing, nothing seemed amiss—but the more one thought about it, the stranger it sounded.
Especially that heartfelt, “All thanks to your help—otherwise, my wife never would have conceived.”
It sounded… ambiguous, easily misunderstood.
“Chang Yu, I never expected you to be this sort of person!”
At that moment, Katerina had just arrived at the door and, hearing this, her face darkened like a pot’s underside.
She’d thought Chang Yu was a decent, upright man, someone she could trust to live a steady life with, but now… was he just another playboy?
Even seducing another man’s wife—how little did she know him!
“That’s right!” Yang Yang chimed in gleefully. “I always knew Chang Yu was a scoundrel!”
This brat seemed only to want chaos in the world.
“Katerina, let me explain—” Realizing the misunderstanding, Chang Yu quickly tried to speak.
“There’s nothing to explain,” Yang Yang intoned melodramatically, mimicking a TV drama. “This is where our feelings end.”
“Go play, child.” Chang Yu shoved Yang Yang aside. “Stop stirring up trouble!”
“Brother Wang, you have to take responsibility for what you say! My relationship with your wife is perfectly innocent!” Seeing that Katerina looked unconvinced, Chang Yu grew anxious.
“Ah!” Fat Wang slapped his thigh. “What are you all thinking? I meant that the medicine you gave me last time really worked!”
“I only took it four times and already saw results—your remedy is truly miraculous!”
“Doctors everywhere, at home and abroad, couldn’t solve my problem, but you did.”
“Now that my wife is pregnant, she’s stopped quarreling with me, and our impending divorce has vanished.”
“Life is peaceful again, and my status at home has soared. Now she dotes on me constantly—I can hardly get used to it!”
“Well then, congratulations, Brother Wang.” Now that the misunderstanding was cleared up, Chang Yu finally relaxed.
“I know that your greatest wish was always to have a child of your own. Now you finally have what you wanted.”
“But next time, please be clear when you speak. Don’t make things so ambiguous—it’s terrifying!”
With everything explained, Katerina’s expression brightened, and Chang Yu quickly put on his host’s smile.
“Well, since everything’s sorted out, why are we all standing outside? Come in, come in!”
“Brother Wang, you came so early—have you eaten? Come in and have some breakfast.”
“Katerina, please come in—don’t be upset, it was all a misunderstanding!”
Chang Yu warmly welcomed them inside, set another place at the table for Fat Wang, and had him sit.
Fat Wang glanced at Katerina across the table, then at the busy Chang Yu, his mind working.
Soon, a broad, motherly smile spread across his face.
“Uh… Xiao Yu, aren’t you going to introduce this young lady?”
“Brother Wang, this is my colleague, her name is Katerina.” Chang Yu laughed.
“Very nice, very nice.” Fat Wang nodded approvingly. “She’s a beautiful girl, calm and steady—a good match.”
“When are you two planning to set a date? I’d love to come and toast at your wedding!”
