Chapter Ninety-Three: The Online Class Begins~ (Please Subscribe!)
Bang!
“No, no, that’s not it.”
Yin Jian slammed his hands down on the table, his eyes shot through with blood. These days, he’d been obsessing over the online mode setup for “Mystic Warriors” to the point of near madness.
No matter how he configured it, nothing felt right.
He’d made several well-designed templates that looked promising, but the tests always fell apart—either there was no balance, or it simply wasn’t fun to play.
He was about to lose his mind.
“So this is what it means to be stuck on a card game?”
Yin Jian felt his head throb. If he’d had no ideas at all, he wouldn’t be this tormented. But the problem was, he did have some vague thoughts—yet whatever he actually created ended up completely different from what he’d imagined. It was as if his hands had minds of their own.
The frustration was unbearable.
At this moment, he finally understood how Happy Afro had felt back then.
“This is tough.”
He scratched his head. The repeated failures of late had clouded even the few ideas he had.
“Forget it, it’s a mess now. I’ll stop thinking about it.”
Realizing his thoughts were in complete chaos, Yin Jian decisively gave up on further brainstorming. If he could come up with something, he’d do it. If not, he’d just move on to the next game.
He wasn’t the type to give up an entire forest for a single tree.
“Let’s see what kind of silly stories players are sharing in the comment section.”
With that thought, he opened the game assistant’s backstage to relax a bit.
But before he could even access the backend for “Mystic Warriors,” he saw someone had tagged him in the group chat.
His eyebrows rose.
He opened the group chat with practiced ease, ready to show off his wit—only to find that the one who tagged him wasn’t Sword Rises, but Happy Afro.
Happy Afro: @YouForceMe_Dog Giant’s online classroom link is live now, want to join?
Staring at Happy Afro’s message, Yin Jian was momentarily stunned. He glanced at the date—only then did he realize that, without even noticing, it was already the end of the month—the day the online class was to begin.
“Has so much time already passed?”
He was genuinely surprised, completely unaware how quickly time had slipped away.
“Guess I was too absorbed in game development.”
Shaking his head as he came back to his senses, he was glad he’d mentioned this event in the chat before—otherwise, without a reminder, he might have missed it entirely.
With that, he quickly typed out a reply.
YouForceMe: Sure, I’m logging in now.
EggyEgg: King Noob! Can you stream it? Us underdogs want to learn alongside the pros.
Sword Rises Sect Leader: Take me with you, Sword Rises.
Divine Phoenix: I’m so jealous.
YouForceMe: Not a problem, I’ll stream it for you all once class starts.
Sword Rises Sect Leader: King Noob, you’re the best! Unparalleled!
YouForceMe: [You’re something else].jpg
YouForceMe: [Take Noob with you].jpg
…
After finishing the chat, Yin Jian opened the link Stone had sent him and clicked in.
His consciousness entered cyberspace.
After a brief journey through a data tunnel, a towering building made of virtual data appeared before him.
He knew this building well.
It was the online school managed by the Education Department of White Bridge Star.
Back in college, he’d attended many of his courses here.
Recalling the things he’d done during his university days, Yin Jian couldn’t help but feel a wave of embarrassment.
“Wait…”
He suddenly halted, realizing a serious problem.
If he just waltzed into class like this, wouldn’t he risk exposing his real-life identity and causing a massive social disaster?
He sucked in a breath at the thought.
He’d nearly embarrassed himself to death.
Without hesitation, he opened his character settings and chose to log in with an alias.
In an instant, his youthful appearance was replaced by that of a handsome middle-aged man.
It was the image of his father, Yin Bi.
As long as the course wasn’t run directly by the Education Department, the online school allowed login with an alias—after all, some courses were a bit embarrassing to admit to, so the system protected personal privacy this way.
Once he’d logged in under his alias, Yin Jian checked himself over carefully to make sure his identity was secure, then stepped into the virtual school.
The main door opened, revealing a white room.
In reality, the online school’s main entrance was just the login portal; different links would transport you to different virtual classrooms.
This time, he landed in a fairly standard media room, big enough for two or three hundred people.
The instructor hadn’t arrived yet, but many people were already seated.
Groups had gathered and were quietly chatting.
Surveying the classroom, Yin Jian raised his eyebrows.
The number of female designers was much lower than he’d expected—the ratio was about twenty to one.
Still, though few in number, the quality of these lady designers was quite remarkable.
Unfortunately… Yin Jian shook his head as he watched the crowd of male designers encircling the women.
So many wolves for so little meat.
“They’re all hopeless, while serious game developers like me are rare,” he thought, retracting his gaze. He opened his neural terminal and sent a private message to Happy Afro.
YouForceMe: I’m here, where are you?
Happy Afro: I still have some work to finish in real life, give me ten more minutes.
YouForceMe: Let me know when you arrive.
Knowing Happy Afro wasn’t there yet, Yin Jian closed his neural terminal, glanced around, and chose a quiet corner with fewer people.
He wasn’t exactly antisocial, but also not overly talkative—he enjoyed chatting with others under normal circumstances.
He chose the corner because he worried that if he got too into a conversation, he’d lose control of his mouth…
This wasn’t the first or second time it had happened.
He was fine in most ways, except that once he started bragging, he couldn’t stop. That was how he’d embarrassed himself back in college.
“Keep a low profile, I’m just a noob…”
Muttering to himself, Yin Jian sat down in his chosen corner.
Just as he was about to open the group chat and kill some time, he suddenly sensed someone approaching.
“Hey man, are you a part-time game designer?”
Hearing the question, Yin Jian turned to look.
He found a young man of about twenty-three or twenty-four, somewhat handsome, wearing an orange beret.
Seeing the enthusiasm on his face, Yin Jian didn’t want to be rude, so he replied straightforwardly, “No, I’m full-time.”
“Full-time?” The young man in the beret sized him up, a bit skeptical. “I thought you were a soldier by profession.”
At the moment, Yin Jian was using his father’s image—tall and imposing, projecting an air of authority.
Yin Jian just shrugged.
The young man wasn’t bothered by the silence and introduced himself, “I’ve been making games for two and a half years now. I’m a mid-level designer. My designer name is ‘Wolf King Who Loves Frying Pans Most.’ I specialize in tower defense games. You can just call me Wolf.”
Hearing this, Yin Jian almost wanted to cover his face.
Look at that designer name, then look at his own—there was no comparison.
After a brief hesitation, under Wolf’s expectant gaze, Yin Jian smiled awkwardly and said, “You can call me Noob. My specialty is games with random elements.”
“Random elements? Noob, could you explain a bit more?” Wolf asked, clearly curious—it was a genre he’d never heard of before.
At that, Yin Jian’s eyes narrowed, and a grin slowly crept across his lips.
“Wolf, let me tell you all about it.”
