To the Reader

Suddenly, I feel as though I ought to say a few words of gratitude. After all, so many authors write a heartfelt note when their work is launched, making the occasion seem solemn and significant. It seems I have never done so—instead, I always just mention at the end of a chapter that the novel will soon be available, and that’s all. It is not that I lack respect or sincerity; rather, I simply never knew how to compose such a message.

Today, however, I find myself struck by a sense of conscience. So many of you have quietly supported me, subscribing and leaving reviews without fanfare, and yet I have never publicly expressed my thanks. Well, today, this shameless author has finally been awakened by conscience. Seven chapters of this novel have already been released, and so I should take this opportunity to offer my thanks here. I won’t go on about my editor or my close friends—you all know who you are.
