Chapter 113: Fan Wuwei Is Knocked Away
Back home, Fan Lihua was on her way to sneak into the treasury when she ran into Fan Wuwei.
Fan Wuwei frowned at his furtive descendant, clearly displeased. "What are you doing?"
Startled by the sudden voice, Fan Lihua stiffened and turned around. Realizing it was her ancestor, she stood at attention, her body rigid. "Ancestor, you scared me to death."
Fan Wuwei snorted coldly. "Look at you. You have none of the grandeur of the Candle Dragon clan; you look like a common thief."
Fan Lihua felt as if she had been caught red-handed. Cold sweat broke out on her back, and her mind raced. If the ancestor knew she was planning to rob the family treasury, would he spare her? Her eyes darted around nervously. Not being very good at lying, she stammered, "The ancestor of the Tengshe clan and my little goddess have returned to the Sacred Realm. I was wondering if I should find a reason to pay a visit, but I can't go empty-handed, so I was thinking about what to bring."
"That old fellow Jun Yang is back?" Two flames ignited in Fan Wuwei’s eyes. He paid no mind to the rest of Fan Lihua’s words and vanished in the blink of an eye.
Fan Lihua stared at the spot where he had disappeared for a long time, then patted her chest in relief and turned back toward the treasury.
Jun Yang had just paced to the entrance of his cave dwelling when he heard Fan Wuwei shouting from outside.
"Old man, come out and have a drink!"
"Jun Yang! Get out here!"
The voice echoed through the entire Tengshe cave dwelling. Jun Yang clenched his fists, his palms itching for a fight. However, after a few moments, the shouting abruptly ceased. Jun Yang blinked and glanced toward his room. "Cough, Little Ancestor, I’ll go check it out."
After checking in, Jun Yang hurried out of the cave to find Fan Wuwei.
Fan Wuwei himself was bewildered. One second he was at the Tengshe dwelling, and the next, he had been swatted into the Xuecang Mountains—not at the entrance, but deep into the heart of the valley. A bone-chilling cold penetrated from the soles of his feet straight to his skull. Even with his cultivation as a Saint Venerable, he could not resist the freezing intensity.
"This place is getting more and more bizarre," Fan Wuwei muttered, rubbing his arms. "Logically, the Saintess of the Snow Domain hasn't been here for a long time. Why is it still so cold?"
He breathed out a puff of air and scanned the surroundings of the Xuecang Mountains. Aside from the howling wind and snow, there was no sound at all. The vibration of a jade slip interrupted his sluggish, frozen thoughts. Fan Wuwei pulled it out; his beard was already frosted with ice.
"Hello?" His voice lacked the bravado he had displayed at the Tengshe entrance.
Hearing his tone, Jun Yang immediately sensed that something was wrong. "Where are you? What happened?" He did not believe the Little Ancestor would hurt Fan Wuwei; it had to be some unforeseen accident.
Hearing Jun Yang’s voice, Fan Wuwei’s brain seemed to restart. Realizing the danger, he began to run toward the valley exit. "Jun Yang? Your Little Ancestor tossed me into the Xuecang Mountains, but something is wrong with this place."
"Something wrong? What do you mean?"
Fan Wuwei panted as he ran. "Hoo... it's colder here now than when the Saintess of the Snow Domain was around. If it weren't for your jade slip, I’d be an ice sculpture by now."
"Are you alright?" Jun Yang asked sternly.
Fan Wuwei laughed twice. "Luckily, I reacted quickly. I'm outside the valley now; it's not as cold out here."
"Wait there, I'm coming over."
"You're coming? What for?" Fan Wuwei was confused.
Jun Yang did not explain. Instead of heading straight to the Xuecang Mountains, he returned to the cave to inform You Xiyue. He knew his own limits and realized he wouldn't fare any better than Fan Wuwei; such matters required the Little Ancestor.
You Xiyue opened her eyes impatiently and looked at the returning Jun Yang. "What is it?"
"The Xuecang Mountains seem to be acting up."
You Xiyue sat up, dazed, taking a moment to process his words. Jun Yang continued, "Fan Wuwei said it's unbearably cold there. He was almost frozen into an ice sculpture."
You Xiyue understood immediately. She stood up, took Jun Yang by the hand, and led him out of the cave directly to the entrance of the Xuecang Mountains.
Fan Wuwei’s hair and beard were covered in ice. Given that the Candle Dragon clan possessed fire-elemental spiritual roots, their bodies were naturally warmer than others. If even a Saint Venerable ancestor of the Candle Dragon clan was frozen like this, the cold was clearly extraordinary.
You Xiyue extended two fingers, a wisp of spiritual energy seeping from her fingertips to form a sphere. She infused a small flame into the sphere and tossed it to Fan Wuwei. As he caught it, his body warmed instantly.
You Xiyue created another sphere for Jun Yang and brought them both into the valley. The blizzard within grew fiercer, obstructing their vision and seemingly trying to block their path.
"Little Ancestor, does that thing have a consciousness? It seems to be trying hard to stop us," Jun Yang said, following behind You Xiyue. He could barely see anything, but he felt the strangeness of the valley. If You Xiyue weren't leading, they would either be frozen to death or driven mad by the relentless illusions.
The mountains ahead seemed alive, shifting positions constantly, making it impossible to determine the right path. The illusions had no effect on You Xiyue. In her eyes, the mountains and paths remained fixed, and with a single glance, she shattered the illusions.
Fan Wuwei was once again struck by You Xiyue’s power. He leaned toward Jun Yang and whispered, "Is your Little Ancestor really only sixteen?"
Jun Yang shot him a sidelong glance. This was hardly the time to be curious about such things. Fan Wuwei, feeling the weight of the glare, backed off and muttered to himself.
Just as they neared the cave where You Xiyue had previously slain the Saintess of the Snow Domain, she stopped them.
"You two cannot go any further."
"Why?" Fan Wuwei asked loudly, unable to contain his confusion.
Jun Yang gave him a kick and smiled at You Xiyue. "Understood. We will wait here. Be careful, Little Ancestor."
"Mm. If anything happens, crush the jade pendant immediately."
With that, she turned and entered the cave. After stepping inside, she paused for a moment, cast a protective formation just to be safe, and continued inward.
The corpse of the Saintess of the Snow Domain was now completely transformed into an ice sculpture, slumped on the ground. However, there was a faint glimmer of light at the corpse's dantian. The light grew increasingly piercing, as if trying to intimidate You Xiyue.
Unfazed, You Xiyue walked straight toward it and reached out her hand. The object suddenly pierced through the ice sculpture and flew into the air. You Xiyue leaped up to pursue it, but the object’s speed was dizzying. Even You Xiyue struggled to keep up. Finally, she stopped in the cave, frowning as she watched it.
The object, seemingly exhausted from the exertion, slumped to the ground. You Xiyue took the opportunity to approach, but it retreated warily.
A ball of Heavenly Tribulation Fire ignited in You Xiyue’s palm. Her patience had worn thin. "If you run again, I will burn you to nothing."
