The Moonlit Glow Sword suddenly realized that You Xiyue’s expression was somewhat amiss.

“Master! I’m being super quiet!” it protested.

“Heh…” Jun Yang couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh. If this sword could ever be quiet, then everyone else in the world would have turned mute. Back in the day, its chatter was so incessant that even Yun Xi wanted to strangle it.

A sword and a sash, clanging and bickering for three days and three nights.

In the end, You Xiyue had no choice but to seal them away.

“Old man, what are you laughing at?” Moonlit Glow Sword, as if sensing its impending doom, let itself go completely.

“Master, you can’t just seal me! Yun Xi isn’t sealed either!”

Yun Xi’s body trembled, as if enduring something.

Pinching the bridge of her nose, You Xiyue silenced the sword at once.

The Moonlit Glow Sword bounced twice, unwilling, but finally quieted down.

Lutan forced a couple of awkward laughs. “Senior, your sword has quite the personality…”

You Xiyue pressed her lips together, helpless. The sword’s level of loquacity was matched only by its combat prowess.

Jun Yang shot the Moonlit Glow Sword a provocative look. If he could best it, he’d have snapped it in half already—truly an annoyance, especially since it always called him ‘old man’ the moment it opened its mouth.

Lutan withdrew his gaze and continued, “If you’re truly worried, Senior, I’ll keep an eye on the little demons around me.”

“Pay special attention to those whose demonic power is increasing too fast,” You Xiyue emphasized.

“Understood.” Though Lutan was reluctant to suspect his own subordinates, he dared not risk the welfare of the entire demon realm.

“Would you two seniors like to stay at my grotto for a while? This inn really doesn’t offer much comfort.”

When it came to such matters, Jun Yang always deferred to his little ancestor. He turned to look at You Xiyue.

But You Xiyue shook her head in refusal. “Staying too close might actually hinder our search for Hongchen. This place is fine, and besides, the eagle demon outside seems to have a keen sense.”

Seeing her insistence, Lutan didn’t press further. Every time he came to meet You Xiyue at the inn, it was always alone, precisely to avoid exposing the two seniors’ identities.

Though they used Demon Emperor Grass to mask their auras, there were still those around him with extraordinarily keen senses of smell.

Thinking about such keen senses, Lutan recalled the bear demon Duan Li, who had appeared beside him unexpectedly three years ago—but Duan Li was a female bear demon.

So Lutan cautiously asked, “Is Hongchen male or female?”

“Male,” You Xiyue replied.

Lutan understood, and dismissed his suspicions about Duan Li.

“I’ll take my leave, seniors, and begin my patrol,” he said.

You Xiyue nodded slightly, watching Lutan depart.

Shortly after Lutan left, the eagle demon knocked and entered.

“Do my lords have any instructions for me?” the eagle demon inquired eagerly.

Jun Yang looked at the overly attentive eagle demon in surprise. “We don’t have any orders, but you seem to have something on your mind.”

The eagle demon scratched his head sheepishly and grinned. “I see you’re close with our King Lutan. Could you perhaps introduce me? I’d like to run some errands, just to have something to do. I don’t want to keep resorting to robbery every day.”

“You are rather ambitious,” Jun Yang remarked with a sidelong glance. “Serving at Lutan’s side could be dangerous at any moment. Are you sure you still want to go?”

Hearing this, the eagle demon hesitated, but soon steeled himself again.

“I’ll be fine. My alertness—well, I won’t claim it’s the best, but I’m certainly among the top ten in the demon realm. If I can’t fight, I can always run.”

Jun Yang eyed the eagle demon with skepticism. If his awareness was so sharp, why did he dare try to rob him and his little ancestor in the first place?

Sensing Jun Yang’s doubt, the eagle demon explained awkwardly, “You both did have strong demonic auras, but at that time, I couldn’t feel any demonic power from you, and my instincts told me you weren’t dangerous.”

Jun Yang raised an eyebrow in realization. “If you really want to go, I can put in a word for you. But if you notice anything unusual, you must report to me and my little ancestor at once—especially anything related to the missing demons.”

“So that’s what you’re here for, my lords? I promise I’ll do my utmost!” The eagle demon pounded his chest in assurance.

Therefore, when Lutan came again that night, he took the eagle demon with him.

The eagle demon was so excited upon meeting Lutan that he could barely speak properly.

He howled twice for every two words, making Jun Yang frown.

Lutan assigned the eagle demon to patrol Swallowing Sky City during the day, with generous payment in demon stones, and even allowed him to lodge at Lutan’s grotto at night.

The eagle demon’s status in Swallowing Sky City rose steadily.

Many of the lesser demons began calling him “boss.”

Yet, the eagle demon did not become arrogant; instead, he grew more cautious, for his instincts told him he was being watched by something.

And this sense of unease grew stronger with each passing day.

When the anxiety finally peaked, he could no longer bear it and went to find You Xiyue and Jun Yang.

His sudden arrival at the inn caught Jun Yang by surprise.

“What brings you here? I heard you’re doing well for yourself?”

The eagle demon chuckled sheepishly, “All thanks to you, my lords.”

A sensible creature, thought Jun Yang, stepping aside to let him in.

The eagle demon hovered in the doorway, glancing about nervously before finally stepping inside.

“What’s with the sneaky behavior?” Jun Yang closed the door and eyed him in confusion.

You Xiyue also emerged from the inner room.

“Have you discovered something?” she asked.

The eagle demon’s face twisted in distress. He lowered his voice, “It’s not that I’ve found anything, exactly…”

“Then why are you here?” Jun Yang sounded rather displeased.

The eagle demon again checked the doors and windows, then whispered, “I feel like I’m being watched by something lately.”

“What kind of thing?” Jun Yang asked.

The eagle demon sighed, holding a hand to his chest. “I don’t know. I just feel more and more uneasy. You know my instincts are always reliable.”

You Xiyue and Jun Yang exchanged a helpless glance. The information was far too vague.

Sensing their skepticism, the eagle demon hastily added, “It’s the same feeling I had the night that wolf demon went missing.”

“How can you be so sure it’s the same?” Jun Yang remained doubtful.

Growing agitated, the eagle demon insisted, “I swear, my sense for danger is second to none. I suspect I’ll be the next one to disappear.”

You Xiyue and Jun Yang stared at him in silence. Though he sounded certain, until something happened, there was little they could do.

“I know you both want to catch the culprit. I’m willing to act as bait, but I hope you’ll do your best to keep me alive. I haven’t had enough of my patrol duties yet.”

He sounded rather aggrieved.

You Xiyue hesitated, studying him for a long moment before finally asking, “Can you keep a secret?”

The eagle demon was bewildered. “What secret?”

You Xiyue took a jade token from her interspatial bag and handed it to him. “Rest assured, both Lutan and I know about our identities.”

The eagle demon stared in shock at the jade token. “You two are immortal cultivators?!”
