Chapter 142: The Bloodied Man in the Basement
Those were people who dared to leap down from above and face these fiends head-on.
Even Yun Xiling had to stay fully alert when dealing with them, let alone that group.
No wonder the people of the Wuji Abyss were all somewhat abnormal—abnormal enough that even those from the Upper Continent were willing to cooperate with Wulan.
The existence of these fiends and demon beasts was part of the reason.
No one guarded the area outside the Wuji Abyss’ main hall. Only at the entrance stood two sentries, and neither of them was weak.
Both were second-grade Daoists.
Such cultivation was already considered formidable in the Dao Realm.
It was clear, then, that the people inside would be no ordinary figures either.
Around a hundred members of the Abyss lived at the Wuji Abyss headquarters.
Aside from the Abyss Master, Wulan, and the Deputy Abyss Master, Xing Che, there were also five elders.
The Third Elder of the Wuji Abyss, Yao Luo, whom she had encountered before, was not the strongest among them.
Nor was Wulan, as the Abyss Master, the most powerful person in the Wuji Abyss.
That title belonged unexpectedly to the Deputy Abyss Master, Xing Che.
Yet in Wulan’s memories, Xing Che’s whereabouts had always been exceptionally mysterious.
As the Abyss Master, Wulan had never been able to see through him.
Even his appearance remained a blur in Wulan’s mind.
You Xiyue frowned and thought for a moment.
Could he be even uglier than Yao Luo?
She was already extremely reluctant to meet him.
No matter how she thought about it, he seemed like nothing but trouble.
The two guards at the entrance were not difficult to deal with.
With a blink, You Xiyue knocked them both unconscious.
Then she strode inside openly.
Moving too carefully would only make these people, who lived by the edge of a blade, more vigilant.
Apart from the two guards, there was almost no one to be seen inside the Wuji Abyss.
The Abyss members were either out carrying out missions or cultivating in seclusion within their own rooms.
That saved You Xiyue a great deal of trouble.
No one but Wulan ever came to the Wuji Abyss dungeon.
Everyone knew who was imprisoned there.
Aside from Wulan, none of them seemed to have any interest in the place.
Thus, You Xiyue walked in as though the entire area were deserted.
When she pushed open the dungeon door, she saw a bloody figure whose flesh was so mangled that he no longer looked human.
You Xiyue’s heart clenched, bringing a faint stab of pain.
She slowly approached.
The man did not make the slightest sound.
He seemed to have been dead for a very long time.
If You Xiyue had not been able to sense his still-beating heart, she would truly have believed him dead.
Fiends darted wildly around the dungeon. Yet even when faced with that mutilated body, they did not dare approach and feast upon him.
They merely drifted in the distance.
Countless exorcism needles had been driven into the man’s body.
Whenever a fiend drew near, the needles would begin to tremble violently, attempting to draw the creature into themselves.
And as the needles shook, the man’s wounds were affected as well.
You Xiyue’s eyes turned crimson once more.
She glared fiercely at the flying fiends.
With a wail, one of them transformed directly into black smoke and exploded into fragments across the air.
Hearing the disturbance, the man finally lifted his head and looked toward You Xiyue.
He seemed not to recognize her.
Then he gave a soft laugh and lowered his head again.
“What new trick is this?”
“Song Bai.”
You Xiyue called out through a choked voice, “Come home with me.”
Song Bai lifted his head disdainfully.
“Who do you think you are? Go back and tell that brother of mine to give up. No matter what happens, I will never tell him where the clan token is. He wants to control the entire Fuzhu Clan? He is far too inexperienced.”
You Xiyue sighed.
At a time like this, Song Bai’s only judgment of Wulan was that he was inexperienced.
Just how deeply did she love that brother to show him such boundless tolerance?
You Xiyue felt a heavy ache in her chest.
After a long silence, she swallowed and said, “Wulan’s memories have been purged, and his cultivation destroyed. He will not be coming back for the time being.”
Song Bai abruptly raised his head. Ignoring the pain in his body, he struggled to stand.
“What do you mean?”
“Song Bai, I am You Xiyue.” You Xiyue stared into his clouded eyes and spoke each word distinctly.
Song Bai stared at her in disbelief, his eyes widening as though he wished to see straight through her.
Only when You Xiyue took the You family crest from her spatial earring did he finally react.
With a thud, Song Bai fell to his knees.
Pressing his forehead to the ground, he choked out, “My young mistress, you truly are still alive. This is wonderful.”
You Xiyue walked over and helped her up. She summoned the Moon Gleam Sword, severed the iron chains binding Song Bai, and caught her as she began to collapse.
“I’m taking you with me.”
Song Bai looked at You Xiyue anxiously.
“What about those old monsters from the Upper Continent...?”
You Xiyue patted Song Bai’s hand.
“Don’t worry. They haven’t discovered me. After all these years, they have long since relaxed their vigilance. Besides, we have the Fuzhu Clan’s illusion arts.”
“Mm.”
Song Bai nodded and followed You Xiyue toward the outside of the Wuji Abyss.
The exorcism needles were still embedded in Song Bai’s body.
You Xiyue could no longer worry about whether she would alert the enemy.
She wrapped Song Bai in Cloudfolding Silk and flew straight out of the Wuji Abyss hall.
Such rapid movement naturally attracted the attention of many Abyss members.
They rushed out of their rooms one after another, hoping to find out what had happened.
By then, You Xiyue was almost at the entrance.
She could already sense people pursuing her from behind.
Strangely, however, they all stopped halfway and returned.
You Xiyue glanced back toward the hall in confusion.
The empty main hall held an eerie air.
But she was more concerned with Song Bai’s injuries and had no time to think about it.
After only a moment’s hesitation, she took Song Bai and flew away.
Xing Che, the Deputy Abyss Master of the Wuji Abyss, stood at the inner entrance of the main hall and cast a faint glance toward the direction in which You Xiyue had vanished.
Then he returned to his room.
The reason the Abyss members had been stopped halfway and ultimately returned to their rooms was Xing Che.
In the face of Xing Che, they felt an intense fear.
The fact that they could not even make out his features only deepened that terror.
No one here thought the Deputy Abyss Master was ugly. They thought him powerful—and frightening.
When everyone had rushed out, Xing Che had merely stood at the entrance, unwilling to move aside. Without saying a word, he had sent them all back empty-handed.
Of course, they trusted Xing Che as well.
If he had not cared about the strange figure who had just passed by, then he must have had his reasons.
No one thought further about it.
Even You Xiyue had not expected to bring Song Bai out so easily.
Still, she had guessed that someone within the Wuji Abyss had helped her. As for why they had helped her—or who they were—she could not say.
There had been no familiar person in Wulan’s memories.
For now, she would first take Song Bai back to the Immortal Realm for treatment. Everything else could wait until she had completely returned to the Void Profound Realm.
After leaving the Void Profound Realm, the tension that had kept You Xiyue on edge finally eased.
Those old monsters of the Void Profound Realm truly were getting on in years. Their vigilance had diminished considerably.
Junyang was horrified when he saw the person You Xiyue had brought back.
How could someone be injured so severely?
Even if they treated her, it was difficult to imagine where they could begin.
“Go to the Alchemy Association and bring Lan Shi here,” You Xiyue told Junyang.
Junyang nodded solemnly and ran outside.
