103. Fallen Dance

Ye Wuya stared at her in a daze, as though half of his soul had already been lured away.

His eyelids drooped slightly, and a wave of drowsiness swept through his mind.

The blood-gold sphere of ancient characters within Ye Wuya’s mind suddenly trembled. An ancient, profound resonance of the Great Dao rang out, instantly snapping him back to his senses.

“Something’s wrong. There’s something strange about this dance!”

The thought surfaced in his mind, and Ye Wuya immediately grew tense. The blood-gold sphere of ancient characters that had always rested quietly in his sea of consciousness suddenly began to vibrate.

“Hm?”

While dancing, Jiang Xiaoxiao cast a glance at Ye Wuya and thought, What’s going on? It didn’t work? As expected of Senior! In that case, I’ll give it my all and let Senior offer me some guidance!

Jiang Xiaoxiao spun around, her dance suddenly expanding in grandeur as a gentle radiance blossomed around her. She cried out loudly:

“Fallen Dance!”

“Wind!”

A breeze suddenly rose beneath the setting sun.

“Flowers!”

Countless petals drifted down from the heavens.

“Snow!”

Snowflakes began to fall in thick, sweeping sheets.

“Moon!”

As Jiang Xiaoxiao uttered her final word, Ye Wuya seemed to find himself in another world.

A cold wind swept across a vast sea of flowers. Snowflakes whirled through the sky, and heavy snow blanketed the land. Yet Ye Wuya could not feel the slightest chill.

“Where is this? How did I get here?”

Standing in the snow, Ye Wuya murmured to himself as he curiously surveyed his surroundings, as though he had forgotten everything.

“Husband!”

A woman’s voice came from behind him. Ye Wuya’s body trembled, and he abruptly turned to look back.

His pupils contracted sharply. A young woman in military attire was slowly approaching through the snow, gazing at him with deep longing.

“Xue’er...” Ye Wuya murmured softly.

Ye Ruxue smiled radiantly and ran toward him, throwing herself into his arms like a swift swallow.

Ye Wuya stood there in a daze. Feeling the warmth of the young woman in his embrace, his heart trembled violently.

The warmth of her body, together with the footprints she had left in the snow, made everything seem so real.

“But what have I forgotten? How did I end up here?”

Ye Wuya’s mind was clouded and sluggish. He constantly felt as though something had slipped from his memory.

“Xue’er, where is Yue’er? What about that old man? Did he do anything to you?”

Ye Wuya gripped Ye Ruxue’s shoulders with both hands and asked anxiously. His memories stopped at the moment when the two sisters, Ye Ruyue and Ye Ruxue, had been taken away.

“Husband, you’re such an idiot! The biggest idiot in the whole world!” Ye Ruxue scolded him angrily. “Do you have a death wish? Do you know that if Sister Qing had arrived even a minute later, you would have—you would have...”

Her furious voice gradually weakened, and she began to sob softly. A mist rose in her eyes, while tears spun in her sockets.

“Xue’er, don’t cry. Please don’t cry. I was wrong, all right? Don’t cry. Look, I’m perfectly fine, aren’t I?”

Ye Wuya was frantic and utterly at a loss.

“Pfft!”

Ye Ruxue suddenly burst out laughing. Pouting, she said coyly, “You’re not allowed to do that again! If something had happened to you, what would my sister, Sister Qing, and I have done?”

Ye Wuya did not answer. He pulled Ye Ruxue into his arms, holding her tightly against his chest, then kissed her forehead, comforting her through his actions.

Blushing furiously, Ye Ruxue murmured from within his embrace as her little fists pounded repeatedly against his chest.

Breathing in the fragrance of her hair, Ye Wuya drew a deep, shuddering breath and said hoarsely, “Never again. I promise. Believe me! I’ll make sure you stay by my side forever, and never leave me. If anyone tries to take you away from me again, I’ll kill him!”

“Mm.”

Ye Ruxue froze, then answered softly. She remained quietly in his arms and stopped struggling.

A long while passed.

In Ye Wuya’s embrace, Ye Ruxue murmured softly, “All right, husband, that’s enough. Let me go. It would be so embarrassing if someone saw us.”

“What’s embarrassing about it? I’ll hold you for the rest of this life—and the next one too!”

Ye Wuya answered domineeringly. His arms did not loosen in the slightest; instead, he held her even more tightly.

“All right, all right, hold me if you want. But Sister Qing sent me to bring you home for dinner. If we’re late and she blames us, you’ll have to deal with her yourself.”

Helpless, Ye Ruxue invoked Xue Qing’s name.

“Isn’t Qing’er gone?” Ye Wuya blurted out.

Even he was stunned by his own words, yet he could not say what exactly was wrong with them.

“Husband, what are you talking about? Sister Qing has been here all along. Did the explosion make you stupid?” Ye Ruxue asked suspiciously, reaching out to poke him in the head.

“Where is Qing’er?” Ye Wuya caught her delicate hand and asked.

“At home. Sister Qing and my sister are both preparing dinner. It might already be ready by now, and they’re probably just waiting for us to return!”

Ye Ruxue answered honestly, though she could not shake the feeling that Ye Wuya had been acting strangely today.

“Home?”

Ye Wuya froze once again. “My home? But why don’t I remember it at all?”

“Looks like Sister Qing was right after all.” Ye Ruxue sighed.

“She said you were brought back alive, but not only was your body severely injured, your sea of consciousness was damaged even more seriously. You might have forgotten many things.”

“Did Qing’er really say that?” Ye Wuya asked doubtfully.

“Of course. If you don’t believe me, examine your body yourself. Your meridians are shattered, and Sister Qing said recovery will be extremely difficult. You’ll have to take it slowly.”

As Ye Ruxue spoke, Ye Wuya looked inward. Just as she had said, his injuries were severe. Not a trace of spiritual energy remained within him. His only possessions were a ruined dantian and meridians torn apart in every direction.

From the spatial ring Ye Wuya had once given her, Ye Ruxue took out a bronze mirror and handed it to him.

When Ye Wuya saw his reflection, disbelief filled his face.

“Is this really me?”

He reached out and touched the scars covering his face. His features were twisted and savage, making him look like an evil spirit that had crawled out of the depths of hell.

Only then did Ye Wuya notice that his hands were covered in scars as well.

He tore open his collar, revealing a chest covered in wounds.

Ye Wuya fell silent. In his current state, he scarcely looked human at all.

He believed what Ye Ruxue had told him. After using his self-detonation technique, he had lost consciousness. Xue Qing had saved him, and had also rescued the sisters, Ye Ruyue and Ye Ruxue.

“What happened afterward?” Ye Wuya asked.

Looking like this, he almost did not want to return. He was afraid that Xue Qing and Ye Ruyue would be frightened by his appearance.

“Husband, I don’t know the details either. After you fell from the sky, we suddenly lost consciousness. When we woke up, we saw Sister Qing treating you while you were barely clinging to life. We’ll have to ask her about the rest when we get home.”
