In just a few minutes, Li Yunlong had finished the self-heating hot pot.

He even drank every drop of the broth.

He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and let out a satisfied belch.

“Try this liquor,” Qiao Mian said with a smile, handing him half a bottle of Xifeng wine. “The locals love it.”

At home, his old father took a paper cup of it before every meal.

Li Yunlong took the glass bottle and praised it, saying, “Damn, this bottle really is exquisite. I bet you could trade it for a pistol.”

Qiao Mian said nothing.

Li Yunlong raised the bottle and took a small sip.

“Good stuff.” He licked his lips, then, still unsatisfied, tilted his head back and drained a large swig.

Qiao Mian watched him with a smile, curious to see whether the man would be drunk and staggering in a moment.

Li Yunlong narrowed his eyes, savoring the taste of the liquor, then set the bottle down and said to Qiao Mian, “Mr. Qiao, let’s talk business.”

Qiao Mian was briefly taken aback, then nodded slightly.

To win so many battles, relying only on a bit of cleverness and a rough-edged temperament would never be enough.

Self-control mattered even more.

Qiao Mian then spent more than half an hour explaining the job to Li Yunlong.

Li Yunlong’s post was manager of the shooting range. The pay was 100 game coins a month, and he had five recruitment slots.

In addition, depending on how the business performed, the shooting range could receive a substantial monthly bonus, which he could allocate as he saw fit.

Li Yunlong raised a few questions, and Qiao Mian answered each one patiently.

When he was done, Qiao Mian looked at the man before him with a faint, amused smile.

“Can’t you give a little more?” Li Yunlong bargained instinctively. “I’ve got a whole bunch of brothers to feed.”

Qiao Mian said nothing, only smiling at him.

“I’m not asking for myself either. When peasants go to work short-term for a rich household, and they bring a few brothers along, they still get meals and money…”

After a few more words and still getting no response, Li Yunlong finally shut his mouth awkwardly.

“The pay for your five employees will be the same as yours, and the bonus won’t be stingy,” Qiao Mian said at last, unhurriedly. “Once you’re here, you’ll need to gradually hand off the matters on the other side.”

Li Yunlong’s brows drew together slightly.

This place was a heaven-sent opportunity.

But to give up his old life for it completely...

He could not do it.

“Mr. Qiao, I, Li, am a soldier,” Li Yunlong said solemnly. “The Japanese devils are still on our land, defiling it and humiliating our people. How could I stand by and simply come here to enjoy a life of ease?”

Grinding his teeth, he said in a low voice, “If joining here means I can’t fight the Japanese, then just support me with some supplies and let me go back!”

Some supplies?

Qiao Mian looked at Li Yunlong strangely.

Noticing his expression, Li Yunlong smiled in embarrassment. “Aren’t you people on this side all supposed to have those... atomic bombs or whatever? Just support me with a few. You said it yourself earlier—we’re all on the same side, right?”

This guy... really knew how to seize an inch after being given a foot.

Cunning as a fox.

Qiao Mian laughed and shook his head.

“I never said you had to drop everything immediately and come over here,” he said. “You can recruit employees first and have them take turns. As long as the shooting range keeps running, that’s enough.”

Li Yunlong frowned in thought.

“Right, you can invite Zhao Gang over,” Qiao Mian added.

“Who’s Zhao Gang?” Li Yunlong asked curiously.

He searched through every memory he had, but there was no such name at all.

“You’ll meet him soon enough after you go back,” Qiao Mian said. “A close friend who will one day become your brother in life and death.”

“A brother in life and death?” Li Yunlong said in astonishment.

If he had not already known how extraordinary this place was, he might have thought Qiao Mian was trying to fool him.

Qiao Mian merely smiled and said nothing.

Li Yunlong was just about to speak when his stomach suddenly began to rumble violently.

His expression changed as he clutched at the belly that now churned like rough seas.

Damn it!

He had diarrhea!

Seeing this, Qiao Mian did not know whether to laugh or cry.

He waved a hand, and an electronic contract appeared before him.

“If you agree, just press your fingerprint here,” he said.

With one hand still clutching his stomach, Li Yunlong used the other to quickly press his print onto the electronic contract in the light screen.

Once that was done, Qiao Mian took a packet of tissues from his pocket and tossed it to him.

“I’ll have someone come get you later and show you around,” Qiao Mian said.

As soon as he finished speaking, his body flashed and shot upward at incredible speed, flying toward the office building.

At the same time, he sent this new employee’s information to all the others in a mass message, and told Drift to take him out for a look around.

The moment Li Yunlong saw Qiao Mian disappear, he dashed to a big tree, yanked down his trousers, and unleashed a barrage with crackling force.

Allosaurus tilted its head and watched him curiously.

Li Yunlong was at the height of relief when he suddenly realized a massive shadow had fallen over him.

He looked up and saw Allosaurus advancing toward him step by step.

Li Yunlong was so startled he nearly sat straight down in it.

Could it be planning to eat him secretly while Mr. Qiao was away?

“Get lost!” he shouted, waving at Allosaurus.

Allosaurus ignored him and instead bared its teeth.

“Scram!” Li Yunlong cried in horror.

Allosaurus still kept pressing closer.

Li Yunlong was so frightened that he lost all urge to continue.

Just as he was about to pull up his pants and run, he suddenly heard a voice from the side.

“Why are you afraid of it?”

Li Yunlong turned his head and saw a towering steel-built giant standing there.

That big fellow had a faint blue glow in his eyes, and its outline was vaguely human.

A Transformer!

Li Yunlong immediately remembered the thing that had once appeared in his mind, and which he had learned from Mr. Qiao was called a Transformer.

If this big fellow were sent to the battlefield, wouldn’t the Japanese have to kneel and call him grandpa?

Seeing Li Yunlong staring dumbly at him, Drift could not help asking, “What are you staring at me for?”

“You’re huge,” Li Yunlong said, unable to hold it in.

“Haha,” Drift laughed, “you talk in a really amusing way.”

“Can you make that thing go away?” Li Yunlong asked, nodding toward Allosaurus, which still stood there.

“Mr. Qiao should have given you permission to scare them too, right?” Drift said.

Then he explained the process to Li Yunlong.

By the time Allosaurus was scared into tucking its tail and fleeing, Li Yunlong was thrilled.

“Damn, that’s really interesting. If this trick could scare the Japanese, that’d be perfect.”

“What are the Japanese?” Drift asked in confusion.

“The little Japanese devils,” Li Yunlong said.

Drift asked, “Are they very powerful?”

“It’s not that they’re strong. It’s that we’re not strong enough!” Li Yunlong’s voice turned slightly heavy.

“Why?” Drift asked, curious.

Li Yunlong opened his mouth to explain, but suddenly felt a chill around his backside, and only then did he remember his situation.

He said, “Um... could you let me finish wiping first?”

Drift turned and walked off to the side, muttering softly that humans were truly troublesome.

Li Yunlong had originally wanted to make do with a clod of dirt or a few leaves, but Drift kept sneaking glances this way, so he had no choice but to open the exquisite packet of tissues.

“This thing probably isn’t even used by the Emperor himself.”

As he caught the faint fragrance from the tissues, Li Yunlong felt a pang of pain in his heart.

He folded one sheet of tissue four times and wiped himself clean.

There was a faint trace of blood on the paper.

“Come on, I’ll show you around and tell you the rules here along the way,” Drift called from a distance, waving at Li Yunlong.
