Chapter Eighty-One: Speaking Seriously
Seeing Qin Feng’s indifferent demeanor, Steward Liu became even more convinced of his suspicion, his tone growing increasingly contemptuous.
“Boy, I advise you to get out of here before you embarrass yourself further. The Bai family isn’t a place for just any stray dog or cat to walk in!”
“Steward Liu, you—”
Jiang Yuechan wanted to protest, but Qin Feng raised his hand to stop her.
“Forget it. There’s no point in arguing with someone who judges others so blindly,” Qin Feng said coolly, a hint of mockery in his voice. “Since the Bai family doesn’t welcome us, we’ll simply leave.”
With that, Qin Feng turned and walked away, without the slightest hesitation.
“Qin Feng, wait—”
Jiang Yuechan was momentarily stunned, clearly not expecting Qin Feng to leave so abruptly. But after a moment’s thought, considering his temperament, she found it unsurprising. She glared fiercely at Steward Liu, then strode after Qin Feng in her high heels.
Watching their departing figures, Steward Liu’s expression turned vindictive. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
“Hello, Second Young Master? Yes, it’s me. That’s right, I’ve stopped them. The boy’s dressed like a beggar—obviously a pauper… Don’t worry, you can count on me. I won’t let him set foot inside the Bai family’s gates…”
After hanging up, a smug smile appeared on Steward Liu’s face.
…
“Qin Feng, wait for me!”
Jiang Yuechan hurried after him, heels clicking, her voice tinged with irritation.
“Why did you just leave without saying a word? Do you have any idea what it took for me to arrange for you to treat Old Master Bai?”
Qin Feng paused, turned to look at Jiang Yuechan, a teasing smile playing at his lips. “What’s wrong, are you feeling sorry for me?”
“What are you talking about?” Jiang Yuechan’s cheeks flushed as she shot him an annoyed glare. “Who’s feeling sorry for you? I just… I just think it’s wrong to walk away like that without a word!”
“Oh? Then what do you want me to do? Go back and give him a beating?”
Qin Feng looked at her with an ambiguous smile, a dangerous glint in his eyes.
“I…” Jiang Yuechan was momentarily speechless. She certainly couldn’t admit she wanted to see Qin Feng display his prowess and teach Steward Liu a lesson.
“Alright, enough nonsense,” Jiang Yuechan composed herself, regaining her usual calm. “Seriously, are you really not going to treat Old Master Bai?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” Qin Feng’s lips curled into a mischievous smile.
…
At the Bai family villa, gloom hung heavy in the air.
Bai Chongshan sat slumped on the sofa, his temples streaked with gray. The authority he once commanded had been replaced by worry and exhaustion. His two sons, Bai Jingshan and Bai Jingtao, stood on either side, their heads bowed, their expressions unreadable.
“Ah…”
Bai Chongshan let out a long sigh, shattering the oppressive silence.
“Even Doctor Yun is at a loss… Is there truly no hope?”
Doctor Yun, a renowned veteran of the medical world, shook his head helplessly and sighed.
“Old Master Bai’s illness is too bizarre. In my decades of practice, I have never seen the like…”
Before he could finish, Bai Jingtao abruptly stood up, his tone agitated.
“Dad, this quack is obviously deceiving us! He can’t cure the illness, so he claims it’s unheard of. He just wants to swindle more money from us!”
“Jingtao! Watch your words!” Bai Jingshan scolded, though his tone lacked real reproach and instead carried a barely detectable excitement.
Doctor Yun was infuriated, his beard bristling and eyes glaring. “I have practiced medicine all my life, saved countless people—how dare a child like you slander me!”
“Enough, enough, say no more!” Bai Chongshan waved his hand tiredly. After years of family infighting, he understood well: though his sons appeared filial, they fought bitterly over inheritance behind his back.
Now, with their father gravely ill, neither seemed truly concerned for his well-being. Most likely, their minds were busy calculating how to claim a larger share of the family fortune.
At this thought, Bai Chongshan felt a wave of desolation. Was the Bai family really destined to fall under his watch?
Just then, hurried footsteps echoed through the hall. Jiang Yuechan strode in, high heels clicking, followed by Qin Feng, whose expression was calmly detached.
“Miss Jiang, you’re back?” Bai Jingshan greeted her with a faceful of false smiles, but at the sight of Qin Feng behind her, his smile froze instantly.
“Hmph. What, didn’t you instruct Steward Liu to stop us just now?” Jiang Yuechan shot him a cold glance, her tone laced with mockery. “I’m here this time to bring the miracle doctor who can cure Old Master Bai!”
“Miracle doctor? Him?”
Bai Jingtao burst into laughter, pointing at Qin Feng.
“Dressed like a beggar, and you call him a miracle doctor? Jiang Yuechan, if you want to cooperate with the Bai family, you don’t have to stoop this low!”
Qin Feng met Bai Jingtao’s ridicule with a faint smile, his eyes serene, as if he hadn’t even heard him.
“You—” Bai Jingtao was about to say more, but Bai Chongshan cut him off with a wave.
“That’s enough!” Though Bai Chongshan held little hope for Qin Feng, at this point, he could only try anything. He looked at Qin Feng, his tone pleading. “Young man, about my father’s illness…”
Before he could finish, Qin Feng interrupted, his voice filled with confidence.
“Rest assured, since I’m here, I naturally have a way to cure him. However…”
Qin Feng paused, his gaze sweeping over the Bai family, a playful smile on his lips. “My treatment is expensive.”
Previously, he might have treated Old Master Bai out of regard for Bai Ruoxi. But now, knowing the family’s discord, he saw no reason to do so.
Bai Chongshan, a man seasoned by storms, quickly regained his composure. Now that even the so-called ‘Master of National Medicine’ Doctor Yun couldn’t diagnose his father, he could only grasp at straws.
“Young man, as long as you can cure my father, name your price!”
Bai Chongshan said solemnly, his tone earnest.
“Ha, the Bai family head is indeed straightforward,” Qin Feng replied, a sly smile on his lips. “One hundred million.”
“What?!”
Bai Jingtao could no longer contain himself, leaping up and pointing at Qin Feng.
“Why don’t you just go rob someone?!”
Even the usually composed Bai Jingshan frowned—one hundred million was outrageous!
Qin Feng was unfazed. He strolled over to the sofa, sat down, crossed his legs, and spoke calmly.
“My time is precious; I don’t waste it haggling. If you think it’s not worth it, just pretend I was never here.”
